Job description

Looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our Summer Camp team as a Science Coordinator for the Summer of 2026!
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Camp Program Director, the Science Coordinator is responsible for carrying out all duties related to their assigned program in a manner consistent with the aims of the Old Colony Y. The Science Coordinator will uphold the employee code of conduct and will ensure that all areas of the job responsibilities will reflect the mission of the Old Colony Y, and the regulating agency. They will display and encourage the character traits of caring, responsibility, honesty, and respect in the fulfillment of all job duties.
JOB FUNCTION:
  1. PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Develop appropriate curriculum and activities for various skill and age levels, and implement a program designed to motivate the children of camp
  • Acquire certification in specialty area (as required)
  • Crisis intervention
  • Assist with organizing, planning, and scheduling
  • Proper set up and storage of any equipment required for the program
  • Create awareness of program amongst all camp staff
  • Plan and lead daily activities
  • Ensure a fun and safe environment
  • Ensure an appropriate ratio at all times
  • Ensure checklists are completed daily
  • Adhere to all DPH regulations and Old Colony YMCA policies and procedures

  1. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Supervise counselors or other staff involved in program activities

  1. FISCAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Adhere to all fiscal policies as outlined by the Association
  • Maintain and inventory all supplies and equipment

  1. FACILITY/HOUSEKEEPING RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ensure that a sanitary healthy environment is maintained
  • Be familiar with emergency procedures
  • Ensure checklists are completed daily

  1. INTERDIVISIONAL/COMMUNITY/ VOLUNTEER/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist in public relations events sponsored by the Old Colony Y
  • Attend family nights and open houses for camp
  • Provide friendly, courteous service to all campers, parents, and volunteers of the Y
  • Contribute to a positive work environment by illustrating pride in job enthusiasm and cooperation with co-workers

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • (YMCA provides training prior to start of camp season) Certification if required for specialties ie. ropes, waterfront etc.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills
  • Evidence of physical examination every two years
  • Negative Mantoux TB test and immunity for measles, mumps, and rubella
  • Certification of good health from a physician
  • Must be able to walk around camp all day as well as stand, stoop and sit
