Surgery specialties at this location include: General Surgery, Bariatrics, Urology, Gynecology, Robotics, Kidney Transplants, Plastics, Ear-Nose-Throat, Oncology, Colorectal, Oral Surgery, & Pediatric Dentistry. The OR utilizes block scheduling for all specialties.

Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) First Assist provides assistance to the operating surgeons in carrying out technical surgical procedures in accordance to applicable safety laws and regulations.
Job Description
Assists operating surgeons with intra-operative procedures like homeostasis, exposure, closure, etc. Develops specialized preoperative plans in coordination with appropriate surgeons and health team members. Prepares surgical tools and equipment, administers intraoperative medications and takes preventative measures to ensure applicable health and safety regulations are satisfied.
Performs responsibilities in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act according to applicable state, institutional policies and procedures of facility, and the Association of Registered Nurses (AORN) Position Statement on RN First Assistants. Practices in collaboration with the surgeon and the health care team in performing a safe operation with optimal outcomes for the patient. Functions as an assistant in all surgical specialties at the direction of the attending surgeon. Does not concurrently function as the scrub nurse.
Credentialing through the Allied Health Staff of the organization where you will be working will be required.
Qualifications
Graduate from a nationally accredited nursing program preferred, including, but not limited to, Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA).
Bachelor's degree is nursing is preferred.
Minimum of two years' experience in the operating room preferred.
Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
Must be certified by the Competency and Credentialing Institute Certification (CCI) for Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR). Maintaining certification is a requirement for employment.
