General Job Summary: The Registered Nurse (RN) provides physical assessments on all Permanency Assessment Center (PAC) admissions. The RN administers medications in accordance with the provider’s order and the medical administration record (MAR). The RN is responsible for serving the health and wellness needs of all youth of Methodist Children’s Homes of MS (MCH). The RN reports to the Charge Nurse.


Essential Functions:

· Enhances current programs by coordinating the overall quality medical care to PAC Youth.

· Coordinates and manages the ordering and organizing of PAC youth’s medications.

· Coordinates PAC youth appointments with the psychiatric nurse practitioner as well as medical providers (clinics) allowed by License.

· Manage the PAC youth’s prescribed medications and monitors patients' responses, and changing care plans accordingly in collaboration with psychiatrist/psychiatric nurse practitioner.

· Assists with admissions and discharges in PAC homes.

· Assists with emergencies and acute care referrals across campus.

· Observes PAC youth and reports any changes in physical, social or emotional condition involving level of functioning, changes in attitude/behavior, loss of appetite, weight change or complaints of pain.

· Documents data related to youth’s care including assessment results, interventions, medications, patient responses, or treatment changes across campus.

· Performs emergency medical procedures such as basic cardiac life support (BLS), and other condition stabilizing interventions across campus.

· Addresses safety hazards that may exist in the youth’s ADLs, habits and living environment across campus.

· Develops to the highest degree possible, a normalized family-style home environment providing counseling, concern, direction, assistance and support for the youth in care.

· Consults and communicates with Psychiatrist(s), Physician(s) and/or Nurse Practitioner any changes in PAC youth requiring medical interventions.

· Assesses acute or chronic conditions that could result in rapid physiological deterioration or life-threatening instability across campus.

· Conducts group and individual learning opportunities about health-related topics to include, but not limited to: medication side effects, physiologic changes experienced by MCH youth and treatment requirements for chronic conditions like diabetes across campus.

· Conducts in-service trainings for staff on medication administration and documentation, side effects and emergency protocols.

· Completes required documentation in accordance with state regulatory standards.

· Responsible for documenting and submitting evaluation and management services via Medicaid billing/Therap

· Nursing will independently cultivate a plan of care within CDC Guidelines to mitigate further transmission/exposure of campus-related infectious outbreaks.

· Performs all other miscellaneous projects and completes various tasks as requested by management not outside of license/ethical parameters.

Qualifications:

Knowledge & Experience

· Must be twenty-one (21) years of age

· Must possess a valid Registered Nurse License in the state of Mississippi that is valid and without restriction; and possess a minimum of two years experience working with children/adolescents or other populations with special emotional/behavioral needs.


Skills/Working Conditions:

· Must maintain valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record

· Must be insurable by Methodist Children’s Homes insurance carrier

· Must be able to work flexible schedule and shifts including overnights, weekends, holidays and extended periods of time.

· Must successfully complete all phases of pre-service and on-going training.

· Must possess strong interpersonal skills.

· Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Software.

· Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Must be able to multi-task in a fast pace work environment.

· Must possess ability to effectively respond to crisis situations.

· Must possess ability to maintain and manage confidential information.


Physical Requirements

· Must provide a negative drug screen result prior to employment.

· Must pass a pre-employment physical and on-going physical assessments as required

· Duties are performed in a variety of environments ranging from highly stressful to casual and leisurely.

· Be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

· Push/pull people and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

· Sit at a desk for extended periods of time and perform hours of work sitting at a computer.

· Twist, turn, bend, stoop and reach frequently in the performance of client assistance responsibilities.

· Duties may include some traveling.

· Have the ability to participate in recreational activities with clients, including, but not limited arts, athletics, and outdoor activities.

· Regular attendance at primary worksite and agency related events.
