FWD.us was founded by leaders in the technology community to give our values a voice in American politics. Tech is a community of dreamers and doers, entrepreneurs and engineers. We imagine new possibilities, and then make them real. At our best, we aspire to make the world a better place for millions of people.
FWD.us' mission is to mobilize the tech community to support policies that keep the American Dream achievable in the 21st century.
We support comprehensive immigration reform, improving the quality of American education, and encouraging more investment in scientific innovation.
To do so, we bring together a diverse group of organizers, entrepreneurs, and innovators. By mobilizing supporters through local chapters and online advocacy, we enable them to engage their elected leaders and win transformational policy changes.
Job Description
The Organizing Department at FWD.us is the center of our organizing efforts. Our team is ambitious and optimistic -- we are constantly pressing to identify breakthrough opportunities in advocating for immigration policies that will make the American Dream achievable in the 21st century. We believe in building strong relationships because engaged communities are the ones that multiply impact.
The Midwest Organizing Director plays a key role in our organizing efforts in the tech community and the immigration reform movement. You will be responsible for engaging startups, tech companies, and business leaders in the fight for commonsense immigration reform; building relationships with local elected officials; and working closely with immigration coalitions in Chicago and the surrounding midwest. You should be excited to bring new voices to speak out for reform, including conservative leaders and stakeholders, interested in bipartisan cooperation, and energized by a fast-moving campaign environment.
The position will be based out of our Chicago office, though there will be some travel expected to surrounding Midwestern states as well as DC.
WHO YOU ARE
  • 2-3 years of experience in immigration reform advocacy, tech policy and advocacy, or political organizing
  • Flexible and adaptive in a fast-paced team environment
  • Experienced relationship-builder and trainer
  • A real team player -- excited to collaborate and cooperate with your coworkers, support everyone's work across the organization, and willing to jump in without ego wherever you're needed
  • Experience with center-right / Republican campaigns or organizations preferred
  • Management experience preferred

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Cultivate relationships with high-level members of the regional tech community and plug them into advocacy opportunities for immigration reform
  • Build relationships with regional immigration coalitions, Members of Congress, and elected officials -- on both sides of the aisle
  • Manage, mentor, and support associate organizers who will report to you
  • Implement national advocacy campaigns at the regional level, throughout Chicago and the Midwest
  • Train volunteers to share their immigration stories
