Job description

Role: Backend Developer (13427)

Location: Irving, TX

Duration: Contract

Job Overview:

You’ll be joining a multidisciplinary MarTech organization spanning four connected work streams: Retail Media (RMN), CRM & Campaigns, Personalization & Web, and a shared MarTech Foundation team, alongside product managers, solution architects, software and data engineers, and QA who build the systems that activate marketing across every customer touchpoint.

You will be responsible for designing and building the integrations, APIs, and data pipelines that connect 7-Eleven's marketing ecosystem—ad platforms, in-store media vendors, audience tools, and the enterprise data lake—into a unified activation and measurement layer that improves customer experience and drives store revenue.

MarTech engineers have a solid technical background but enjoy learning new platforms, vendor APIs, and frameworks. From standing up a net-new ingestion feed to wiring a vendor's proof-of-play data through to reporting, engineers on this team wear many hats to see integrations through to completion. We lean heavily on AI-assisted development to multiply our output, and we expect engineers to do the same. This position is based in Irving, TX (part of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and operate integrations between 7-Eleven and third-party MarTech/ad-tech vendors (retail media, in-store media, audience activation, measurement)
  • Build and maintain REST/event-driven APIs (read, push, pull) and batch and streaming data feeds into and out of the enterprise data lake and activation platforms
  • Develop business-friendly interfaces and tooling on top of the orchestration layer so marketers and analysts can operate without engineering involvement
  • Partner with the data platform, DevOps, and InfoSec teams to land, secure, and govern external data (e.g., cross-account ingestion, data contracts, schema validation)
  • Translate vendor API contracts and data specs into reliable, well-tested, production-ready services
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tooling to accelerate delivery without sacrificing quality
  • Deliver on time with a high bar on reliability, data quality, and engineering craft

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years building backend services and APIs (Node.js, Spring/Java, Python, or similar)
  • 5+ years integrating third-party/vendor APIs and data feeds, including authentication patterns (OAuth, IAM roles, cross-account access)
  • 5+ years with data pipelines and stores — SQL and NoSQL, batch and streaming (e.g., Kafka/Kinesis, Auto Loader, COPY INTO)
  • 5+ years with cloud services on AWS (S3, IAM, serverless functions, compute); experience with Databricks / lakehouse patterns a strong plus
  • Working knowledge of frontend frameworks (React, Angular, or Vue.js) sufficient to build internal/business-facing tooling
  • Familiarity with containerized tooling and deployments (Docker/Kubernetes)
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information to all stakeholders, including non-technical business partners
  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills across distributed, multi-vendor systems
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science / Engineering / Math, or relevant experience
