Job description

Set Up Operator - Knitting Department
Hamlet, NC | Temp-to-Hire Opportunity
Olsten Staffing is currently recruiting for an experienced Set Up Operator to join a growing manufacturing team in the Knitting Department in Hamlet, NC. This is a full-time, temp-to-hire position offering long-term career potential with a stable employer.
Starting Pay: $16.50/hour and up, depending on experience
Shift: Must be flexible to work either 2nd Shift or 3rd Shift. Training will be conducted on 1st Shift before transitioning to your assigned schedule.
Position Summary
The Set Up Operator is responsible for preparing and setting up circular knitting machines for production runs, performing style and size changeovers, troubleshooting basic machine issues, and ensuring products meet quality standards. This position plays a critical role in maintaining efficient production and supporting overall department performance.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform machine set-ups and changeovers according to production specifications and schedules
  • Verify correct yarns, economizers, and materials are used during machine set-up
  • Ensure work order information matches machine LCD data and production requirements
  • Inspect products during and after set-up to ensure quality standards are met
  • Communicate any sizing, programming, or set-up concerns to the Knitting Manager, Master Technician, or R&D team
  • Recommend process improvements and program enhancements when opportunities are identified
  • Test and evaluate machine support equipment, including yarn feeders and device units
  • Identify and report yarn quality issues or specification discrepancies
  • Perform basic machine repairs and component replacements within training and skill level
  • Assist production operations as a Knitter, Technician, or Senior Inspector as needed
  • Participate in shift meetings and production discussions
  • Support training efforts by assisting operators and technicians with proper set-up procedures
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 3-5 years of experience in a circular knitting manufacturing environment preferred
  • Working knowledge of circular knitting machines, including Lonati and Santoni equipment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to read and follow work orders, specifications, and production instructions
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be dependable, safety-conscious, and flexible with work schedules
