Job description

The Volunteer Healthcare Clinic (VHC) is seeking a part-time, bilingual Pharmacy Technician to support pharmacy operations during Tuesday evening clinics. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting our pharmacists in delivering exceptional care to our patients. This person works under the supervision of the volunteer Pharmacist and plays a key role in ensuring the pharmacy runs smoothly.

Position Summary

The Pharmacy Technician assists with prescription processing, inventory management, volunteer support, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards while also serving as a Spanish interpreter for patients and pharmacy staff as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Enter prescriptions and refill requests into Computer RX system

Print labels and assist in filling prescriptions in order received

Support pharmacist with patient interactions, including Spanish interpretation during counseling and medication pick-up if necessary

Orient new volunteer pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to clinic processes

Maintain a welcoming, patient-focused environment

Assist with managing medication & OTC inventory, including ordering, stocking, reconciling deliveries, and removing expired medications

Return unclaimed prescriptions to stock and complete required documentation

Stock prescription vials and maintain an organized workspace

Close and secure pharmacy at the end of clinic (reports, filing, cleaning pill counter, locking the pharmacy)

Cover additional pharmacy shifts as needed (Mon, Thurs, 3rd Wed evenings)

Perform other duties as assigned by the Pharmacist in Charge or Executive Director

Qualifications

Licensed Pharmacy Technician (Texas State Board of Pharmacy required)

Minimum 1 year pharmacy technician experience

Bilingual in Spanish/English (spoken and written) - Mandatory

Strong computer and data entry skills

Experience using SIG codes

Excellent communication and customer service skills

Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment

Volunteer experience in a clinic or nonprofit setting preferred

Reporting Structure Reports to the Pharmacist in Charge with direction from volunteer Pharmacists during clinic sessions.

Schedule Tuesday Evenings, 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM (or until clinic closes)

Qualifications

Licensed Pharmacy Technician by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy

Minimum 1 year experience as a Pharmacy Technician

MUST BE BILINGUAL IN SPANISH (written & spoken)

Strong Computer & Data Entry skills

Experience using SIG codes

Good communication skills

Ability to work & maintain professional demeanor in a fast-paced environment

1 to 2 years as volunteer in VHC Pharmacy is helpful
