What is a volunteer Humana medical coder?

Volunteer Humana Medical Coders are individuals who offer their time and expertise to assist Humana, a healthcare organization, in reviewing and assigning standardized medical codes to diagnoses, procedures, and services documented in patient records. These codes are crucial for accurate billing, insurance claims, and maintaining medical records. Volunteers typically have knowledge of coding systems such as ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS, and may help ensure compliance with healthcare regulations. Their work supports the efficiency and accuracy of healthcare administration. Depending on the program, volunteers may work remotely or onsite under the supervision of certified professionals.

To thrive as a Volunteer Humana Medical Coder, you need a strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and coding systems such as ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS, typically supported by relevant coursework or certification (e.g., CPC, CCS). Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical billing software is essential for accurate code assignment and data management.
