Job description

At Clearwater Credit Union, we believe financial services should strengthen lives, communities, and futures. We are seeking an experienced Vice President of Mortgage Processing & Underwriting in Missoula, MT to lead mortgage processing operations and directly underwrite residential mortgage loans. In this role you will oversee the end-to-end mortgage processing and underwriting operations, ensuring loan files are accurately packaged, thoroughly evaluated, and efficiently moved through the lending process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, develop, and coach the Mortgage Processing team, fostering accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Oversee daily departmental operations, including workflow management, staffing priorities, scheduling, and productivity to ensure exceptional service and timely loan processing.
  • Maintain loan files and records.
  • Exercise decision making in regard to the processing of home lending products.
  • Gather information and receive loan file(s) from Real Estate Lending Officers and Processors.
  • Validate application information in computer system as well as document.
  • Ensure loan file, including documentation, is complete.
  • Order credit reports, appraisals, title commitments, income verifications and other needed information and documentation.
  • Work with Real Estate Lending Officers, Processors, and members to address problems and/or discrepancies in provided information for loan requests.
  • Work with both the VP of Mortgage Originations and VP of Mortgage Servicing to achieve annual goals.
  • Prepare and review closing loan documents.
  • Disburse approved loans.
  • Knowledge of home lending products offered, including staying up to date with regulatory changes.
  • Analyze applicant financial status, credit history, and property evaluation to determine approval of loan.
  • Communicate with mortgage processors and real estate lenders to resolve application information.
  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance of the credit union’s home lending underwriting and processing areas.
  • Manage and maintain home lending underwriting and processing procedures.
  • Stay up to date with economic, business, regulations and financial conditions and their impact on the organization.
  • Manage and report all loans that are HMDA reportable as required.
  • Maintain and monitor all policies and procedures to include any updates or changes needed.

Qualifications:

  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in finance, business, accounting, economics, or a related field preferred.
  • Five to ten years of similar or related experience, including time spent in preparatory positions.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement effective people, time, project, and organizational management practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and to work effectively and efficiently with all levels of staff, members, and vendors.
