About the Role
The Engineering Manager leads a team of software engineers delivering product capabilities within the Care Management (CM) domain of Care Lumen's clinical platform. This role owns both people leadership and engineering excellence-guiding the team to deliver high-quality, scalable software on time and in alignment with product and clinical priorities.
Reporting to senior engineering leadership, the Engineering Manager fosters a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous growth. They partner closely with Product Managers, QA, and Design to define team goals, manage delivery cadences, and navigate technical trade-offs.
The ideal candidate combines hands-on technical credibility with strong people management skills and a passion for building healthcare technology that improves clinical outcomes.
What You'll Do
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of software engineers, fostering a high-performance and inclusive team culture.
  • Oversee the full software development lifecycle for features within the CM domain, from planning to production.
  • Partner with Product Managers to align engineering priorities with roadmap goals and business objectives.
  • Define technical approach and architecture in collaboration with senior engineers and architects.
  • Drive Agile delivery practices, including sprint planning, standups, retrospectives, and backlog grooming.
  • Identify and address technical debt, platform risks, and delivery blockers proactively.
  • Establish and monitor engineering quality standards, including code review, testing, and deployment practices.
  • Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development conversations with direct reports.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with QA, Platform Engineering, and Product teams to ensure seamless delivery.
  • Communicate team progress, risks, and dependencies clearly to senior leadership.

What's Required
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years in an engineering management or team lead role.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage, coach, and grow engineering teams.
  • Strong technical foundation in backend and/or full-stack software development.
  • Experience delivering software in Agile/Scrum environments.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work across product, design, and engineering disciplines.
  • Experience partnering with Product Management to define priorities and resolve trade-offs.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native development practices and modern software delivery pipelines.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer.
  • This role requires travel for up to 5% of work-time.
  • This role requires support of the business hours, 8 am to 5 pm EST.

What's Preferred
  • Experience building products in the healthcare industry, particularly in Care management,Utilization management, or clinical workflows.
  • Background in SaaS product development at a high-growth company.
  • Experience managing distributed or remote-first engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR).

Compensation & Benefits
The expected total cash compensation for this role is market-driven, with an expected starting salary of $145,000 to $174,000. Salary is ultimately determined based on a candidate's skills, expertise, and experience.
