Job Summary

Comcast is looking for a Senior Firmware Engineer (Engineer 4) to develop and maintain software for next-generation technician test and measurement devices. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting firmware that directly interfaces with hardware and enables reliable operation of connected field devices.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience developing production firmware in C/C++, building and customizing embedded Linux distributions using Yocto, and troubleshooting complex hardware/software interactions. You'll work closely with hardware, cloud, mobile, quality engineering, and product teams to deliver scalable, reliable solutions that support Comcast's field operations and customer experience.
This position requires strong embedded systems expertise, a hands-on approach to development and debugging, and the ability to drive technical solutions from concept through deployment and long-term support.

Job Description

This role is based in our downtown Philadelphia Comcast Technology Center. Alternatively, we will consider applicants in the Englewood, CO area. It is not approved for remote or virtual employment.

Responsibilities:

  • Firmware development for XM4, Blackbird, and BigBuddy initiatives
  • Participates in Firmware Guild to promote best practices and team cohesion
  • Collaborates with PES, mobile, QA, and cloud teams for integration
  • Mentors teammates including junior engineers and supports onboarding of new engineers
  • Drives CI/CD pipeline improvements and firmware standardization
  • Collaborating with engineering, product, and user experience teams to refine and estimate deliverables
  • Designing and implementing new APIs, backend services, front-end components, and automation tasks with team guidance
  • Ensuring the creation of scalable, highly available applications suitable for cloud hosting, including robust security features
  • Developing tools for rapid incident mitigation and creating reusable web components for team leverage
  • Architecting self-contained microservices or APIs to support business thought, using content management systems and global design patterns
  • Partnering with cross-functional teams to define product and technical requirements, ensuring alignment with business goals
  • Driving best practices in code health, testing, maintainability, and mentoring junior developers for continuous improvement
  • Analyzing system performance, incorporating feedback to troubleshoot issues, and delivering high-quality software solutions
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 7+ years of experience developing embedded software and firmware for hardware-based products, devices, or systems.
  • Strong proficiency in C/C++ with experience developing and debugging production firmware.
  • Hands-on experience designing, developing, and maintaining embedded Linux systems.
  • Experience using the Yocto Project to create, customize, and maintain embedded Linux distributions.
  • Proven experience working with embedded systems, including hardware/software integration, device drivers, peripheral interfaces, and low-level system troubleshooting.
  • Experience developing firmware for connected devices, IoT products, networking equipment, consumer electronics, test and measurement devices, or similar hardware platforms.
  • Experience utilizing source control, automated build processes, continuous integration, and continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze system performance, diagnose complex technical issues, and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Experience collaborating across hardware, software, quality assurance, product, and cloud engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Ability to mentor engineers, promote development best practices, and contribute to technical leadership initiatives.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively influence technical decisions across cross-functional teams.

Compensation

This job can be performed in Denver Campus with a Pay Range of $135,697.48 - $203,546.22Comcast intends to offer the selected candidate base pay within this range, dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience.
