Job description

*** Part- Time 29 Hours Per Week, Pay Rate: $24.00 Per Hour**

Summary/Primary Purpose: Develop, implement, and provide oversight and coordination of seasonal and on-going special events and programs; implement strategies for volunteer recruitment, retention, training and coordination of volunteers for the local area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create a sustainability plan to retain current volunteers and recruit new groups and individuals to meet all aspects of volunteering needs.
  • Recruit volunteers for The Salvation Army local area on-going programs and seasonal events including but not limited to: Christmas Toy Shop, bell ringing, food distributions, Back to School...etc.
  • Recruit community partner sites for seasonal efforts such as Toy Distribution for Toys for Tots.
  • Complete data entry and maintain the volunteer tracking database.
  • Responsible to maintain data for Safe From Harm and EDS volunteers.
  • Administrative duties to include internal and external written correspondence with store managers, businesses owners, community partners and volunteers.
  • Coordinate with management on events to recognize significant volunteer contributions by individuals and groups.
  • Evaluate and recommend changes in volunteer policies which may impact program operations.
  • Supervise volunteer recruitment opportunities and check-in and register volunteers assisting in those activities, e.g., corporate forums, public speaking, etc.
  • Maintain communication with volunteers and community partners, notifying them regularly of volunteer and sponsorship opportunities, regularly scheduled and special upcoming events.
  • Attend various community events, as required, to speak and promote The Salvation Army programs, events and volunteer opportunities.
  • Maintain liaison with agencies active in volunteer services.
  • Contact high schools and collaborate with student council, advisors, and heads of organizations to promote volunteer opportunities for The Salvation Army.
  • Identify special event needs and recruit and supervise volunteers to make these events successful.
  • Identify companies/individuals who are interested in furthering the success of The Salvation Army by sharing their time and talents through volunteering or community event partnership.
  • This position will be required to attend events, conferences and meetings that may take place outside of normal working hours, to include weekends and evenings.
  • Driving is an essential function of the position.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise volunteers.

Education and/or Experience: High School diploma or equivalent, and a minimum of 1-year experience in customer service, administrative or similar role.

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.

  • Ability to be flexible, prioritize and work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and Access skills, and the ability to access data systems via a web-based system.
  • Administrative skills to include utilization of standard office equipment, data entry, 10-key, attention to details and filing.
  • Good communication skills both written and spoken, and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Mathematical skills to include add, subtract, multiply, divide, use of common fractions and decimals.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters.
  • Attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Strong independent judgement.

Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.
