Job description

Director of Advising and Student Success for Engineering, Technology, and Computer Science
City: Fort Wayne
Job Description:
Join Purdue University Fort Wayne (PFW):
We are currently seeking a full-time, on-site Director of Advising & Academic Success for Engineering, Technology, and Computer Science in the Advising and Student Success department. This position will work closely with the dean, department heads, faculty, and professional advisors and will lead a team of advisors. The annual wage for this position is $64,600.00.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct and personalized academic advising, coaching, and mentoring to a student cohort
  • Train, lead, and manage the work of the professional academic advisors.
  • Develop strong relationships with the Dean, department chairs, and faculty to understand the various curricular programs, to ensure advisors are current on curricular requirements for degrees and certificates, and to guide students in their choices of degree and certificate programs of study.
  • Participate as appropriate in campus-wide student engagement activities, in service on campus-wide committees and task forces, and in campus-wide social and community building activities.
  • Work with the University Director of Advising and the directors of the other colleges/schools on student success research analysis, improved software utilization, team training & development of ASAS advisors, and development of standardized campus-wide advising strategies, plans, and activities.
  • Develop and pursue a program of personal and professional development that includes active participation in professional associations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's Degree.
  • At least two years of direct experience in academic advising in a university.
  • Superior listening skills; interpersonal relationships skills; basic counseling skills; knowledge and skill in group dynamics; cross-cultural understanding skills; strong abilities to empathize with people from freshmen to deans and executive administrators.
  • Skill or aptitude in using sophisticated academic software like Banner, myBlueprint, Navigate360, Smart Plan, etc.
  • Data analytic skills and the ability to conduct actionable research on the results of advising activities and student success initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's or Doctoral Degree obtained (or actively pursuing).
