Position Summary

Salem College seeks a highly motivated and team-oriented individual to serve as a Volunteer Assistant Soccer Coach. This position supports all aspects of the women's soccer program, including student-athlete development, practice planning, recruiting support, and game-day operations. The ideal candidate is committed to fostering a positive, inclusive, and competitive environment aligned with the mission and values of Salem College.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Head Coach in planning and conducting practices, training sessions, and game preparation
  • Provide technical and tactical instruction to student-athletes
  • Support the development of student-athletes both athletically and academically
  • Assist with opponent scouting, film breakdown, and game strategy
  • Help coordinate and execute game-day operations
  • Promote a culture of sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect
  • Ensure compliance with NCAA, conference, and institutional policies and procedures
  • Assist with team travel coordination and equipment management
  • Serve as a positive ambassador for Salem College Athletics

Required Qualifications (Bullet Points)

HS Diploma required (bachelor's degree Preferred)

Previous playing and/or coaching experience at the high school, club, or collegiate level preferred

Strong knowledge of soccer fundamentals, strategies, and player development

Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends

Commitment to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion

This is a volunteer position and does not include monetary compensation. However, the position may provide valuable coaching experience, networking opportunities, and potential professional development within collegiate athletics.

Physical Functions

While performing the responsibilities of the Volunteer Assistant Coach the employee is required to sit for varying lengths of time; bend, reach, lift, push, and pull up to 25 pounds; occasionally stand, walk, and kneel and regularly ascend/descend stairs; use hands and fingers to handle or feel and manipulate keys on a keyboard; perform extended periods of work at a computer workstation, view a computer monitor; perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and receive detailed information through oral communication; express and exchange ideas by means of spoken word; and work in an office setting.
