PROJECT ARCHITECT

Healthcare

Rice Fergus Miller | Hybrid: Bremerton or Spokane, WA

ABOUT RFM

For nearly 40 years, Rice Fergus Miller (RFM) has designed places that strengthen communities throughout the Pacific Northwest. We are a Certified B Corporation architecture, interior design, and planning firm with offices in Bremerton and Spokane, Washington, committed to design excellence, sustainability, and building lasting relationships with our clients.

Our Healthcare practice serves Tribal Nations, healthcare systems, and community providers, delivering new facilities, additions, renovations, and campus improvements that include Tribal health facilities, outpatient and behavioral health clinics, medical office buildings, and other community-based care environments. Our work spans projects of varying scale and complexity, each shaped by the unique operational, cultural, and regulatory needs of the communities we serve.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role sits at the intersection of technical leadership and client partnership. You will lead the architectural delivery of complex healthcare projects, working closely with clients, consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies from design development through construction administration.

This is a project leadership role, not simply a production position. You'll guide technical decisions, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, mentor emerging staff, and help ensure every project is thoughtfully detailed, well-coordinated, and successfully delivered. You'll be expected to bring solutions, exercise sound judgment, and contribute as a trusted leader within both the project team and the firm.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Lead the technical delivery of healthcare projects of varying size and complexity, from early design through construction administration, balancing design intent, constructability, quality, and client goals.
  • Drive coordination with structural, MEP, and specialty engineering consultants, resolving conflicts before they reach the field.
  • Present design and technical solutions directly to clients, GC teams, and AHJs with confidence and clarity.
  • Interpret and apply applicable codes, including FGI Guidelines, IBC, WAC, and Tribal jurisdictional requirements.
  • Guide the technical development and quality of Revit models and construction documents, ensuring coordination, constructability, and RFM quality standards.
  • Build trusted relationships with clients by serving as a technical advisor throughout planning, design, and construction.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Licensed architect (any jurisdiction) or actively pursuing licensure with ARE exams in progress.
  • Professional degree in architecture plus a minimum of seven years of experience, with meaningful time on healthcare projects.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical documentation and multidisciplinary coordination using Revit.
  • Experience coordinating multiple consultants and managing technical decision-making across concurrent project phases.
  • Fluency in code research and jurisdictional compliance, including FGI Guidelines and the distinctions between state and Tribal regulatory frameworks.
  • Direct experience managing consultant coordination and jobsite review.
  • Comfort representing the firm externally, including in client meetings and during construction.

PREFERRED

  • Prior experience on projects within Tribal jurisdictions, including familiarity with sovereign regulatory authority and IHS standards.
  • Experience delivering healthcare projects of varying size and complexity, including new construction, additions, renovations, and phased projects.
  • Familiarity with the operational realities of phased construction in active healthcare environments.

  • Sick Leave of 80 hours per year
  • Parental Leave of 4 weeks, after one year of employment
  • Eight Paid Holidays
  • Eight hours of Paid Volunteer Time
  • Health Insurance: Medical, Dental and Vision with RFM paying 99% of the employee's premium
  • Cafeteria Plan: Flexible Spending Account, Dependent Care Account, Transportation Account
  • Lifestyle Spending Account allowance of $500 per year for remote work and wellness-related expenses
