Job Description :

CLOUD PLATFORM ENGINEER

We are seeking an experienced Platform Engineer to support the design, deployment, and optimization of virtualized environments powering our cloud-native 5G infrastructure. This long-term contract, on-site role in Cheyenne, Wyoming (M-F) involves hands-on work with technologies such as VMware, Wind River, and OpenStack, with a strong focus on automation, scalability, and operational efficiency.

 
Must Have Skills:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 7+ years of experience in virtualization technologies, including VMware (ESXi, vSphere), OpenStack, and Wind River
  • Hands-on KubeVirt experience 
  • Hands-on experience with bare-metal and virtualized deployments of cloud infrastructure
  • Solid understanding of cluster management, resource allocation, and virtual networking in a distributed environment
  • 6+ years of experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, GitLab, Jenkins, or equivalent
  • Proficiency in scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell) for automation and operational improvements

 
Nice to Have Skills:

  • Experience with VMware Cloud (VMC) on AWS and hybrid cloud deployments
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes and cloud-native technologies
  • Understanding of software-defined networking (SDN) and virtualized network functions (VNF)
  • Strong experience with monitoring/logging tools (Prometheus, FluentBit, ELK Stack) for virtualized environments

 
Day-to-day responsibilities:

Virtualization & Cloud Infrastructure:

  • Deploy, configure, and manage highly virtualized environments using VMware ESXi, vSphere, OpenStack, and Wind River
  • Assist in the design and implementation of scalable, fault-tolerant virtual infrastructure across multiple data centers
  • Support the development and maintenance of virtualization frameworks, optimizing resource allocation, performance, and capacity planning

Automation & Efficiency:

  • Develop and enhance automation for provisioning, monitoring, and managing virtual infrastructure using Ansible, Terraform, and Jenkins
  • Support zero-touch provisioning (ZTP) and automated recovery processes to ensure high availability
  • Identify and implement optimizations to improve performance while reducing operational overhead

Collaboration & Technical Guidance:

  • Work cross-functionally with cloud, networking, and software teams to ensure seamless platform integration
  • Guide best practices for virtualization and automation
  • Participate in knowledge-sharing activities, mentoring junior engineers, and contributing to technical documentation

Operations & Monitoring:

  • Monitor and troubleshoot virtual environments to proactively address performance bottlenecks and system failures
  • Assist in backup, disaster recovery, and failover strategies to enhance system resilience
  • Implement automated responses to incidents to minimize manual intervention

Documentation & Standards:

  • Contribute to defining and maintaining best practices for virtualization and automation processes
  • Maintain detailed documentation of infrastructure configurations and procedures
