Job description

  • Design and create a wide variety of complex communications materials for the Dallas ISD communications department.
  • Confer with and advise staff regarding project specifications such as paper stock,graphic content, layout and media requirements; may create composites and develop concepts depending on needs and budgetary considerations.
  • Plan, prepare, design, and execute the design of professional graphic artwork
    including, but not limited to, digital graphics for web and social media, brochures, billboards, digital and print ads, newsletters, displays, charts, posters, banners, business cards, forms and promotional materials.
  • Process completed artwork and layouts to the appropriate media format in preparation for production.
  • Utilize a computer for electronic preparation of four-color process work. 80%
  • Effectively use design/layout programs produce files for maximum printability and design effect.
  • Effectively use photo imaging programs to enhance and manipulate photos to produce maximum printability and design effect.
  • Effectively use illustration programs to create artwork or design elements to enhance the design/layout for maximum printability and design effect.
  • Confer with requesting department and print shop staff to coordinate production of graphics materials, ensuring service efficiency.
  • Prepare and ensure conformance to detailed specifications and cost estimates for productions.
  • Manage and maintain the supplies within the department for in-house projects. 5%
  • Research and remain abreast of innovative materials, methods, and techniques related to graphic design.
  • Monitor and report progress towards stated goals and objectives, as well as department-wide goals and objectives.
  • Manage design presentations and communication, clearly articulating graphic intent and decisions to cross-functional partners, ensuring projects meet creative standards, timelines, and creative requirements.
  • Serve as driver of innovation within the category, identifying opportunities to push graphic expression into new spaces while maintaining alignment with Dallas ISD branding standards.
  • Drive execution of graphic concepts from idea through delivery championing product integrity, innovation, and performance while overseeing multiple initiatives across timelines and platforms.
  • Associate's Degree from an accredited university in Graphic design, web design, visual communication, or closely related field: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university preferred.
  • 5 years of direct experience; Six years' experience as a production artist and designer with extensive knowledge of all phases of print production.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of communications and graphic design theory, including graphic art, design, and illustration.
  • Ability to recommend methods of visual presentations, including theme, style, and format.
  • Knowledge of applicable software programs including, but not limited to, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Creativity, problem-solving skills, and an eye for details to communicate ideas visually, verbally and in writing.
  • Open to new ideas and influences, and quick to react to changing trends.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines and production schedules.
  • Ability to work nontraditional hours including evenings and Saturdays.
  • Customer service oriented.
