What We're Looking For
Job Post Description:

Novant Health Coastal Region is seeking a Pediatric Ophthalmologist to diagnose, treat and manage all eye conditions in children, from vision development to surgical needs like cataracts, glaucoma, and crossed eyes (strabismus), including managing premature infants' eye issues (ROP) and performing surgery, all while communicating effectively with families and potentially teaching. Key duties include comprehensive eye exams, vision testing, prescribing glasses/contacts, managing complex conditions, performing surgery, and collaborating with other specialists.

Candidate Qualifications:
  • Board-certified Ophthalmologist (MD/DO) with fellowship training in pediatric Ophthalmology.
  • Pediatric Expertise: Understanding visual development and managing children's unique needs.
  • Strabismus: Special focus on eye muscle problems and misalignment, often treating adults with these conditions too.
  • Excellent clinical, surgical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to teamwork, research, and education.

Responsibilities & Duties:
  • Diagnosis & Treatment: Identify and treat vision problems (amblyopia, refractive errors), eye diseases (glaucoma, cataracts, infections, ROP), and alignment issues (strabismus) in infants, children, and adolescents.
  • Surgery: Perform microsurgery, laser surgery, and complex eye muscle procedures.
  • Consultation: Provide specialized care for systemic conditions affecting eyes (e.g., diabetes, JRA) and manage premature infants.
  • Patient & Family Care: Adapt exams for children, use age-appropriate tools, and educate parents on eye health.
  • Corrective Lenses: Prescribe eyeglasses and contact lenses.
