Bring the Mayfield Experience to Life

Do you enjoy meeting new people, creating a welcoming guest experience, and sharing a southern tradition with visitors from near and far? Mayfield is looking for a friendly, energetic part-timeRetail Store Associate to join our team at the Mayfield Visitor Center in Athens, TN.

The Mayfield Visitor Center welcomes families, school groups, community members, and guests of all ages. From the gift shop to the ice cream parlor to the visitor tour experience, our team helps create a fun, memorable, and welcoming environment for every guest.

This role is a great fit for someone who enjoys customer service, is comfortable in a busy public-facing setting, and is excited to serve as a positive brand ambassador for Mayfield.

What You'll Do

As a part-time Retail Store Associate, you will support daily operations in the Visitor Center, including the gift shop, ice cream parlor, and guest experience areas 20-25 hours per week. Responsibilities may include:

  • Greet guests in a friendly, welcoming, and professional manner.
  • Assist customers with purchases, product questions, and recommendations.
  • Operate the cash register / POS system and accurately process cash, credit card, and other payment transactions.
  • Scoop and serve ice cream while maintaining a clean, safe, and inviting service area.
  • Learn about products sold in the store and stay informed about new arrivals, promotions, and special offers.
  • Stock, rotate, organize, label, and price merchandise and displays.
  • Help monitor inventory levels and notify the supervisor when items need to be replenished or reordered.
  • Assist with regular inventory counts and general store organization.
  • Maintain a clean, guest-ready environment by completing assigned cleaning tasks.
  • Respond professionally to guest questions, concerns, or complaints and escalate issues when needed.
  • Answer incoming calls and assist with general Visitor Center inquiries.
  • Support shipping or order-related activities as needed.
  • Remain alert to potential shoplifting, fraudulent activity, or safety concerns and report issues appropriately.
  • Follow all company safety, sanitation, food safety, and customer service standards.
  • Assist with school field trips, families, tour guests, and community visitors.
  • Speak comfortably in front of small groups, which may include welcoming tour guests, introducing the visitor video presentation, or assisting with tour-related activities.
  • Support special events, school ice cream parties, and community activities as assigned.

  • Ability to handle cash transactions accurately.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Familiarity with food safety, sanitation, retail, food service, hospitality, or tourism environments preferred.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 0-1 year of retail, customer service, food service, hospitality, or related experience preferred.
  • Prior POS, cash handling, retail, or ice cream / food service experience is helpful, but not required.
Schedule

The Mayfield Visitor Center is currently open:

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday
10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time
Closed Wednesdays

Tours are offered Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. There are no tours on Saturday, but the Gift Shop and Ice Cream Parlor are open. Candidates should be flexible to work varying shifts 20-25 hours per week, including Saturdays and occasional special events as business needs require.
