Department Summary

The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for its Sociology Adjunct Instructor pool for the 2026-2027 academic year. We seek a passionate educator who is committed to empowering students, transforming lives, and strengthening communities. The successful candidate will contribute to UNT Dallas’s mission to foster learning, cultivate curiosity, and create an environment of respect and belonging for all students.

Position Overview

The successful candidate will be expected to develop curriculum and provide instruction in a range of classes in Sociology. Other duties may include coordination with the department Program Coordinator and other faculty as needed. Adjunct faculty plan courses and implement and evaluate teaching/learning objectives and student learning outcomes. Adjunct faculty undertake the divisional and professional responsibilities of a part-time faculty member, including office hours.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in Sociology, or in an equivalent discipline, with at least 18 graduate hours in Sociology and outstanding experience in teaching core-curriculum Sociology courses.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong teaching skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Sociology with significant experience in higher education.
  • Successful experience teaching adults in a post-secondary institution.
  • Specialized work-related or teaching experience that directly relates to the course being taught.
  • Experience in online course development and teaching.
  • Excellent communication skills in multicultural settings.

  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Moving self in various positions to perform tasks in tight and confined spaces.
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting or standing.
