Job Description:

The Labeling Regulatory Specialist is responsible for reviewing, updating, and maintaining product labels to ensure compliance with FDA, USDA, U.S. state regulations, and requirements for imported food products across a diverse portfolio. This role supports label accuracy, regulatory updates, and cross-functional coordination to ensure products meet compliance standards while supporting business needs.

Essential Role Functions

ยท Review, verify, and update product labels to ensure compliance with FDA 21 CFR, USDA, U.S. state laws, and applicable requirements for imported foods across a large and diverse portfolio

ยท Ensure labels meet federal and state-specific requirements, including allergen labeling, ingredient declarations, and required disclosures, while considering category-specific requirements and variations

ยท Own regulatory label updates related to ingredient changes, allergen requirements, and regulatory changes

ยท Execute label evaluation activities at scale, including review of flagged items, legacy products, and newly acquired items, while supporting backlog reduction

ยท Communicate with domestic and international suppliers to obtain, clarify, and correct label-related documentation, including managing follow-ups and resolving delays

ยท Partner cross-functionally with QA, Marketing, and Procurement to support label updates, align on requirements, and move projects forward efficiently

ยท Assess regulatory risk, identify compliance gaps, and escalate issues as needed to ensure timely resolution and minimize business and recall risk

ยท Develop and maintain SOPs, policies, and best practices for label compliance and review processes

ยท Work closely with Marketing to review and align product claims, branding language, and marketing driven statements to ensure they are compliant and supportable

ยท Collaborate with Supplier Specialists to ensure vendors associated with reviewed labels meet food safety and compliance requirements, especially for new product launches and onboarding

ยท Support additional regulatory or label related projects as needed

Work Experience/Requirements for This Role

ยท BS in Food Science or related field

ยท 3-5 yearsโ€™ experience with FDA (21 CFR) and USDA labeling requirements

ยท FDA food labeling certification

ยท Strong verbal and written communication skills

ยท Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Preferred:

ยท Experience with TraceGains, Genesis R&D, or similar systems

ยท Experience working with food suppliers and/or imported food products

ยท Knowledge of certification and claims requirements (Organic, Non-GMO, Halal, Kosher, etc.)

ยท FSVP, PCQI, and HACCP certification

ยท Hours: 6:00am-3:00pm or 7:00am-4:00pm Central Time
