Summary of Job Duties:
A Medical Laboratory Scientist II in the Microbiology Laboratory is responsible for processing, evaluating and performing tests to identify microorganisms or antigens according to written procedures and performs susceptibilities in the Microbiology Laboratory.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology, Biology, Chemistry, or related discipline.
  • 2 years of Clinical Laboratory experience.
  • ASCP or equivalent certification in Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Technologist (MT) or Microbiology (M)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or Medical Technology
  • Ability to answer advanced questions about Microbiology from clinicians
  • Able to perform blood parasite analysis.
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of UAMS testing methods and the ability to operate all equipment in the UAMS Microbiology department. Equipment includes: Cepheid Infinity, bioMerieux Vitek, MSbioMerieux Vitek 2, MicroscanBacT/ALERT and Virtuo Blood Culture Incubators, Anaerobe Chamber, WASP, BioFire, Torch, Diasorin MDX, Biological Safety Cabinets

  • Organize and prioritize workload, work independently, demonstrate technical expertise on various Microbiology processes, and to make critical decisions about results, QC and maintenance issues.
  • Provides departmental support and performs additional duties or projects as assigned to assist their supervisor.
