What are virtual tutors?

Virtual tutors are educators who provide academic assistance and instruction to students online, rather than in a traditional classroom setting. They use digital platforms to connect with learners, offering help in various subjects through video calls, chat, or interactive tools. Virtual tutors may work independently, for tutoring companies, or as part of educational institutions, tailoring their teaching methods to meet individual student needs. This flexible approach allows students to access tutoring from anywhere and often at convenient times.

Location: Remote

Job Type: Full-Time (30–40 hours/week, W2)

Start Date: Summer 2026 onboarding, with paid in-person training in San Jose, CA

Compensation: $35-45/hour for teaching + $16–20/hour for non-teaching/admin time

About the Role

Join Think Academy as a full-time G3-G5 Math Teacher starting July 2026. Teach with structured curriculum, receive paid training, and grow into long-term teaching and curriculum roles.

  • Teach using high-quality curriculum (no need to build from scratch)
  • Paid for both teaching and non-teaching work
  • Clear growth path (Senior Teacher, Mentor, Curriculum roles)
  • Long-term opportunity with a consistent teaching schedule

This is a long-term teaching opportunity—not a short-term tutoring role.

About Think Academy

Think Academy US, a wholly owned subsidiary of TAL Education Group (NYSE: TAL), is a leading education company dedicated to helping K–12 students build strong academic foundations, confidence in math, and long-term learning ability through high-quality teaching and thoughtfully designed curriculum.

What Makes This Role Different

Unlike many traditional teaching roles where teachers are expected to build everything on their own, Think Academy teachers work within a structured instructional system with curriculum support, training, class materials, and team collaboration. This allows teachers to focus more on student growth and teaching quality, while continuing to grow professionally.

In this role, you will receive:

1) Stronger Teaching Support
  • Teach with high-quality curriculum, lesson materials, and instructional guidance
  • Receive structured onboarding and ongoing training
  • Collaborate with a team instead of teaching in isolation
  • Spend less time building materials from scratch and more time focusing on teaching
2) Long-Term Career Growth

High-performing teachers may grow into opportunities such as:

  • Senior Teacher
  • Lead Teacher or Mentor
  • Curriculum and Lesson Development
  • Teacher Training Support
  • Academic Operations or Management roles

This role is especially well-suited for candidates seeking a professional teaching path with both instructional depth and long-term advancement opportunities.

3) Competitive and Meaningful Earnings
  • Compensation for both teaching and non-teaching work (grading, class preparation, parent communication)
  • Performance-based increases and advancement opportunities
  • Potential to continue into year-round teaching, creating more stable long-term earnings

What You'll Do
  • Teach math classes in a clear, engaging, and student-centered way
  • Deliver lessons using Think Academy's curriculum, lesson materials, and instructional guidance
  • Support students in building strong understanding of math topics up to pre-Algebra
  • Manage a virtual or in-person classroom and create a positive, high-expectation learning environment
  • Grade homework and provide timely academic feedback
  • Communicate professionally with students and parents about progress, performance, and learning goals
  • Participate in teacher training, lesson preparation, and ongoing professional development
  • Work approximately 30–40 hours per week, with most classes scheduled during weekday afternoons/evenings and weekends

Who We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree completed or in progress
  • Strong math foundation and comfort with elementary school math topics or above
  • Passion for teaching and supporting student growth
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to commit at least one semester with fixed teaching schedule (Fall semester ends in Dec. 2026)
  • Available to work during weekday afternoons/evenings and weekends
  • Experience in tutoring, mentoring, coaching, camp teaching, classroom teaching, or working with younger students is a plus
  • Math competition background (such as AMC or related experience) is a plus, but not required
  • Available to attend a 5-day on-site training (paid) in San Jose, CA as part of onboarding

Compensation & Benefits
  • Teaching Hours: $35-45/hour
  • Non-Teaching/Admin Hours: $16–20/hour for grading, class preparation, parent communication, and related work
  • Performance-Based Increases: Opportunities for bonuses and pay rate growth based on performance and long-term contribution
  • Consistent Teaching Opportunities: Qualified teachers may continue into year-round teaching opportunities, creating more stable long-term earnings
  • Benefits: 401(k), health insurance, dental insurance, and vision insurance based on eligibility
  • Visa Support: Work visa sponsorship may be considered for long-term, high-performing teachers
