What is a virtual social media assistant?

A Virtual Social Media Assistant is a remote professional who helps manage and grow a company's or individual's presence on social media platforms. Their tasks typically include creating and scheduling posts, responding to messages and comments, monitoring analytics, and staying updated on social media trends. They can work part-time or full-time for businesses, entrepreneurs, or influencers, offering support without the need for on-site presence. This role helps organizations maintain an active and engaging digital presence, often across multiple platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

What does a virtual social media assistant do?

As a virtual social media assistant, your job is to help a company manage an online marketing campaign. In this role, you may help upload and manage its content, use tools on the internet to monitor engagement with your audience, and provide feedback on the performance of each social media channel. Virtual social media assistants also help plan the strategy for marketing campaigns, determine which platform is most likely to provide a good return on investment, and otherwise take care of the many small details of a social media marketing campaign. Some employers list this job as a social media virtual assistant. Despite the implications of the name, this is not always a remote position.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a virtual social media assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Virtual Social Media Assistant, you need strong written communication, content creation abilities, and a solid understanding of major social media platforms, often supported by experience or certifications in digital marketing. Familiarity with scheduling tools like Hootsuite or Buffer, basic graphic design software such as Canva, and analytics platforms is typically required. Creativity, organization, and responsiveness help set top performers apart in this role. These skills ensure effective online engagement, brand consistency, and efficient management of multiple social accounts in a fast-paced digital environment.

How does a virtual social media assistant typically collaborate with marketing teams and content creators?

A Virtual Social Media Assistant often works closely with marketing teams, graphic designers, and content creators to ensure a cohesive online presence. They may participate in virtual meetings to discuss campaign goals, provide feedback on content drafts, and schedule posts according to the overall marketing calendar. Effective communication and use of collaboration tools (like Trello or Slack) are essential for staying aligned with the team, meeting deadlines, and adapting strategies based on performance analytics.

What is the difference between Virtual Social Media Assistant vs Social Media Coordinator?

Job description

Description

MDVIP: Transforming Primary Care, One Patient at a Time

MDVIP is a national concierge medicine network with 1,300+ physicians across 45 states. Our model gives patients a primary care doctor with genuine time and access: smaller panels, same-day appointments, preventive care that actually happens. The people who find us tend to be actively looking for something better.

We're building the organic growth program from the ground up. Content, SEO, CRO, and social work as one team with shared goals, not separate channels chasing their own metrics.

Role Summary

You'll own organic social strategy and execution for MDVIP. This is a real ownership role: you set the strategy, build the calendar, produce and publish content, and report on what's actually working.

The goal isn't follower counts. It's brand authority, physician storytelling, and the kind of trust-building that matters in healthcare. Because we're YMYL, accuracy is non-negotiable and your editorial judgment has to be strong.

You'll collaborate closely with the Content Manager, SEO Manager, and broader marketing team, and work directly with physicians on content.

If you're an organic social strategist with real ownership experience, a strong editorial eye, and a background in healthcare or another high-trust category, we'd love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own organic social strategy across relevant platforms (primarily LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube).
  • Build and maintain a content calendar tied to MDVIP's content and SEO pillars.
  • Produce, edit, and publish content: short-form video, static, and written posts.
  • Surface physician and patient stories and turn them into content people actually share.
  • Monitor brand health signals: share of voice, engagement quality, sentiment.
  • Report on what's working, what's not, and what to try next, tied to outcomes not vanity numbers.
  • Collaborate with SEO and content on cross-channel distribution of high-value content.
  • Stay current on platform algorithm changes and feed that back to the team.

Key Competencies

  • Editorial judgment: knows when content builds trust and when it just fills the calendar.
  • Healthcare accuracy: holds the YMYL bar on every piece, every platform.
  • Outcome orientation: measures success in brand impact and downstream member contribution, not follower counts.
  • Physician storytelling: can draw compelling content from busy subject-matter experts.
  • Honest attribution: reports what social actually drove, not what the last-touch model says.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • 3-5 years in organic social, owning strategy and execution (not just scheduling).
  • Healthcare, regulated industry, or another YMYL category in your background.
  • Strong editorial judgment: you know when content builds trust and when it fills the calendar.
  • Comfortable reporting on performance with honest attribution.
  • Track record of audience growth without paid amplification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with E-E-A-T and how brand signals interact with organic search.
  • Experience building content programs with subject-matter experts who aren't natural content creators.
  • Short-form video production skills.

Computer Proficiency:

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Experience with social media management and scheduling platforms. Familiarity with social analytics tools and video editing software a plus.

Why Join MDVIP?

  • Real ownership from day one: you set strategy, run the work, and own the outcome.
  • Healthcare mission: the work matters, and the users are people making real decisions about their care.
  • Building phase: this team is new, the program is new, and your fingerprints will be on how it's built.
  • Competitive Compensation: Attractive base salary complemented by performance-based incentives.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Health, dental, vision insurance, and retirement plans.
  • Positive Work Environment: Consistently recognized as a Great Place to Work, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.

MDVIP is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds and do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, veteran status, or any other protected status. We believe that diversity and inclusion drive innovation and strengthen our company culture.

If you require accommodations during the application or interview process, please let us know, and we will be happy to assist.

Pay Transparency: Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across appropriate US geographic markets. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and education/training and a candidate's work experience. Hired applicants are offered annual incentive compensation programs, subject to applicable eligibility requirements. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance. The company offers the following benefits for this position, subject to applicable eligibility requirements. Medical/prescription drug coverage, Dental coverage, Vision coverage, Flexible Spending Account, Health Savings Account, Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account, Basic and Supplemental Life Insurance & Accidental Death and Dismemberment, Disability Income Protection Plan, Employee Assistance Program, 401(k) retirement program, Vacation, Paid Holidays and Personal time, Paid Sick and Family and Medical Leave time as required by law.
