Job description

Overview
Position Summary
The Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner (APP) will provide patient care in both the outpatient clinic and hospital consult settings under the supervision of an attending ophthalmologist. The APP will evaluate and manage patients with a wide range of acute and chronic eye conditions, respond to inpatient and emergency consults, and perform office-based ophthalmic procedures.
Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain medical histories and perform focused ophthalmic examinations
  • Perform and/or assist with office-based procedures such as intravitreal injections and minor ophthalmic interventions
  • Conduct routine follow-up visits and pre- and post-operative assessments
  • Coordinate diagnostic testing, procedures, and interdisciplinary care planning

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in ophthalmology
  • Proficiency or familiarity with office-based ophthalmic procedures (e.g., intravitreal injections, lasers, minor surgeries)
  • Strong communication, organizational, and team collaboration skills
  • Flexibility to work effectively in both inpatient consult and outpatient clinic settings

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Master's degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant.
Credentialing: Must meet requirements set forth by the Medical Staff Office to obtain and retain privileges to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant within UF Health Shands Hospital and/or the Shands UF Healthcare Network, as applicable.
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
Current and clear license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Physician Assistant (PA) in the State of Florida. BLS is required.
