Sterling Engineering is looking for an Engineer I in Shelbyville, KY. This opportunity is with a growing engineering consulting firm supporting utility and natural gas infrastructure projects throughout the United States.

Job Duties:
  • Perform field inspections, equipment testing, troubleshooting, and technical support activities.
  • Conduct basic natural gas design calculations for piping, pipelines, regulator stations, relief valves, and related systems.
  • Prepare and maintain engineering drawings and documentation using AutoCAD Civil 3D and other CAD software.
  • Set up files, sheets, title blocks, notes, and general details as part of project drawing packages.
  • Collaborate with Engineers, Project Managers, and Field Personnel to determine project requirements and priorities.
  • Review and interpret pipeline safety codes, regulations, and technical manuals.
  • Participate in leak surveys, inspections, and code compliance reviews.
  • Support pipeline inspections and prepare required documentation and reports.
  • Interface directly with clients and regulatory agencies as needed.
  • Maintain compliance records and project documentation.
  • Travel to project sites for inspections, surveys, and field support activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering required.
  • 0-3 years of engineering experience.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to work both in the field and office environments.
  • Comfortable working outdoors and traveling as needed.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical codes, standards, and manuals.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or CAD software; Civil 3D experience is preferred.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and SharePoint.
  • Utility, natural gas, or project management experience is a plus.
  • Experience with documentation standards, material specifications, and bills of material (BOMs) is preferred.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
Additional Information:
  • Approximately 40-50% field work and 50-60% office work.
  • Travel includes day trips and occasional overnight stays.
  • Company-provided vehicle available for local travel.
  • Extensive training program including technical modules, testing, and field qualification requirements.
  • Two-step interview process consisting of a virtual interview followed by an onsite interview.
  • Bonus eligibility begins after one year of employment.
  • Benefits become effective on the first of the month following 30 days of employment.
