Job description

Role:Technical Services Specialist - xR / VP Technology

Location: New York

Department: Customer Solutions & Delivery

Reports to: Specialist, Solutions Design (based in NY)

Work Arrangement: Hybrid - 3+ days/week in the Disguise NYC office (including roughly 1 day/week on-site at ESPN facilities in Bristol, CT or 7 Hudson in NYC)

ABOUT THE ROLE

This individual will serve as a specialist delivering Disguise projects across our Broadcast and xR client base. The Technical Services Specialist (xR / VP Technology) will work across various platforms-primarily LED stages and mixed reality technologies-helping achieve our clients' creative visions through technical acumen.

The Specialist will primarily support the ESPN HQ in Bristol, CT, and the 7 Hudson Studio in NYC. This position requires an in-depth, hands-on understanding of various Disguise workflows, including xR, VP, DMX, and RenderStream.

You will collaborate alongside Disguise's solutions designers, creative services team, project managers, engineers, third-party vendors, andโ€”most importantlyโ€”the customer to ensure projects are implemented successfully: on time, to scope, within budget, and exceeding expectations. The ideal candidate is experienced in collaborating with internal and external stakeholders across multiple regions and time zones.

While based in NYC, travel is required in response to global project demand. Both domestic and international travel are required (roughly once a month), sometimes on short notice, spending roughly 1-2 weeks on-site at client facilities per project.

You will play a pivotal role at Disguise as the gateway between our technology, our customers, and their audience's visual experience.

What you will do:
  • ESPN Support
  • System Status & Maintenance: Conduct weekly follow-ups with the ESPN team to monitor system status and studio functionality.
  • Bi-annual maintenance: Collaborate with ESPN's technical team to update and test systems, including updating Disguise operating systems, d3 Designer builds, IPVFC firmware, and RenderStream plugins.
  • License Updates & General Support Duties: Assist ESPN with RenderStream license updates and provide ongoing technical support, including system health checks, workflow guidance, bespoke training, and rapid troubleshooting during critical issues.
  • Disguise xR workflow support: Support ESPN's operators to ensure production runs smoothly and operational knowledge remains up to date.
  • Deliver official Disguise training: Deliver official Disguise training programs directly to the ESPN team.
  • While your primary focus will be supporting ESPN and other NYC-based clients, you will also work on diverse projects across virtual production, immersive experiences, and fixed installations. (Disguise will provide comprehensive training if you lack direct experience in these secondary areas.)
EXPERIENCE:
  • xR/VP experience: 3+ years of experience working in an xR/VP environment, including operating and maintaining the system. Proficiency in Disguise xR workflows is a strong plus.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting technical gear essential to xR production, including professional cameras, tracking systems, LED volumes, and robust networking infrastructure.
  • Client-Facing Deployment: Comfortable traveling to and working directly on-site at client facilities, serving as the technical face of the team.
  • Real-time rendering: Strong working knowledge of real-time render engines, specifically Unreal Engine.
  • Modern Video Standards: Strong working knowledge of IP video standards, specifically SMPTE ST 2110.
  • Industry Trend Aware: Possesses a keen interest in and up-to-date knowledge of advancements across Broadcast, xR, and Virtual Production landscapes.
BEHAVIOURS & VALUES:
  • Adaptability: A passion for learning new technologies; we will provide additional training in specialized areas like virtual production and immersive experiences as needed.
  • Anybody joining Disguise should embody the following attributes:
  • Driven, proactive, and passionate about project design and delivery.
  • Accountable and dependable, a team player who takes accountability and asks for help when needed.
  • Dynamic and quick to respond to changes, works well under pressure, and with other teams.
  • No Ego:Win for the team and for our customers.
