Job description

The Registered Practical Nurse in the Same Day Surgery Unit participates in providing peri-operative care for adult patients in accordance with the job description and Scope of Practice for Registered Practical Nurses.

1. Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse
2. Current Medication Administration and Asepsis Certificates, or has the ability to successfully complete within 6 months of commencing the role
3. Current Heart and Stroke Foundation CPR course diploma or equivalent
4. Current certification in venipuncture and completing a 12 lead ECG
5. Completion of a nursing physical assessment course
6. Physical Assessment Certificate
7. Recent (3 years) experience adult surgical skill
8. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, high turnover environment
9. Evidence of commitment to professional practice
10. Demonstrates interpersonal, communication and teamwork skill
11. Demonstrates critical-thinking and decision-making in assessment and problem identification
12. Demonstrated excellent communication and organizational skill
13. Post-operative teaching specific to spine, gynecology, general surgery, strabismus, plastic surgery, orthopedics, arthroscopy, and dental surgery
