Location: Greenville, Mississippi
Department: Medical-Surgical Unit
Employment Type: Full-Time / Part-Time
Reports To: Nurse Manager / Director of Nursing
Position Summary
The Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (Med-Surg RN) is responsible for providing direct and individualized nursing care to adult patients in an acute care hospital setting. The RN utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care while collaborating with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, patients, and families to promote optimal health outcomes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assess, monitor, and document patient conditions and responses to treatment.
  • Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments according to physician orders and hospital protocols.
  • Develop and implement individualized patient care plans.
  • Monitor vital signs, laboratory results, and patient progress, reporting significant changes promptly.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, medications, procedures, discharge instructions, and follow-up care.
  • Collaborate with physicians, therapists, case managers, and ancillary departments to coordinate patient care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical records documentation.
  • Respond appropriately to medical emergencies and changing patient conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, infection control standards, and state/federal regulations.
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) as appropriate.
  • Promote a safe, compassionate, and patient-centered environment.
Qualifications
Education
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Licensure & Certifications
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Mississippi.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
Experience
  • Previous medical-surgical nursing experience preferred.
  • New graduates may be considered based on clinical rotations and training.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple patient assignments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Commitment to patient safety, quality care, and teamwork.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift patients or equipment as needed.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime when necessary.
