Job description

A career as a Chief Advisor Counterparty Credit Risk within the Global Counterparty Credit Risk, Capital Markets and Treasury Risk Management oversight team at National Bank involves overseeing and monitoring counterparty credit risk for key players and participants in capital markets. This role allows you to have a positive impact on the organizationโ€™s financial resilience through your financial markets expertise, professional judgment and analytical skills.

Your role
  • Lead the evolution of the counterparty credit risk framework covering key participants in capital markets, including investment funds, hedge funds, pension funds, and other non-bank financial institutions.
  • Design and challenge exposure measures, stress testing methodologies, reverse stress testing analyses, and risk scenarios related to counterparty credit risk.
  • Oversee the continuous monitoring of credit quality, risk limits, significant exposures, concentrations, early warning indicators, breaches, and exceptions.
  • Conduct in-depth credit assessments combining quantitative and qualitative analysis for complex transactions involving insurers, asset managers, hedge funds, and clearing houses.
  • Develop complex processes, policies, methodologies, and systems aligned with the Bankโ€™s strategic objectives while recommending and driving corrective actions when required.
  • Represent the counterparty credit risk function in discussions with regulators, auditors, and internal and external committees while contributing to the development of less experienced colleagues.

This position is located in Montrรฉal or Toronto and will report to the Senior Manager, Counterparty Credit Risk, Non-Bank Financial Institutions, within Capital Markets and Treasury Risk Management.

Prerequisites
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics, Financial Engineering, or a related field, combined with 7 to 10 years of relevant experience; a Masterโ€™s degree or CFA, CPA, or FRM designation is considered an asset.
  • Extensive experience in counterparty credit risk or wholesale credit risk involving non-bank financial institutions such as hedge funds, asset managers, insurers, pension funds, or clearing houses.
  • Strong knowledge of capital markets, derivatives, structured products, securities financing, prime brokerage, collateral management, and institutional business models.
  • Expertise in financial analysis, quantitative and qualitative risk assessment, credit adjudication, limit setting, risk appetite frameworks, and exception management.
  • Solid understanding of risk quantification methodologies, including Potential Future Exposure (PFE), exposure simulation models, stress testing, and reverse stress testing.
  • Proficiency with Bloomberg, Excel, and data analysis, visualization, or automation tools such as Power BI, QuickSight, VBA, Python, or artificial intelligence applications used in credit risk management.
