Job description

Grand Canyon University is seeking academic peer tutors to support our mission through the Academic Centers for Excellence. Peer tutors assist students in understanding course concepts and developing effective study strategies.
Purpose within the Organization:
Academic peer tutors help fellow students by providing one on one and small group academic support in designated course work. This position promotes student success by fostering a collaborative learning environment aligned with the University's mission of academic excellence and servant leadership.
Training is provided in peer tutoring best practices. Peer tutors work in-person on the Phoenix main campus and may provide virtual and in person support to students.
The Academic Centers for Excellence are open Monday through Thursday 10AM-8PM and Sunday 10AM-8PM.
This position is currently hiring University Tutors to provide tutoring to students in the following degree programs/areas of study:
  • English
  • Math
  • Business

Responsibilities Related to Purpose:
  • Provide individual and small group peer tutoring in assigned subject areas.
  • Model academic integrity and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Encourage independent learning, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Collect and maintain student data related to peer tutoring assistance.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and services provided as well as documenting accurate and timely records of peer tutoring.
  • Participate in required training sessions.
  • May be requested to perform administrative duties for Center Operations as needed.
    Qualifications:
    • Must have current 3.25 GPA or above an "A" in specific course for which you will be tutoring students or referral form faculty.
    • Must have a passion and willingness to help others succeed.
    • Possess strong ethics and integrity.
    • Preferred availability: 10-20 hours per week.

    Grand Canyon University is committed to a student first policy.
    Therefore, all applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered for student employment:
    • Enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a Bachelor's program or Master's program.
    • Retain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
    • Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.

    You may be subject to termination if you fall below the minimum requirements.
    Pay Rate: Minimum Wage
