Position Title: Secondary Teacher (RVA)

Position Goal: To create a flexible program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for grade-level education, in accordance with each student's ability; to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Other duties may be assigned. The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following fundamental duties.

1. Teaches reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, and/or music to students in a classroom, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities.
2. Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
3. Provides tutoring to all Reading Virtual Academy students (face to face or virtual)
4. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
5. Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
6. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
7. Evaluates student's academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
8. Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student's progress and interpret the school program.
9. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
10. Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
11. Maintains professional competence through in service educational activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
12. Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
13. Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.
14. Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
15. Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program.
16. Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
17. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
18. Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee. This job description does not constitute an exhaustive list of responsibilities and management may revise it at any time.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Possession of appropriate degree
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Pennsylvania Instructional Teaching Certificate
LANGUAGE SKILLS:

1. Ability to speak clearly and distinctly.
2. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
3. Ability to speak effectively with other employees, students and parents.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

1. Ability to apply basic arithmetic calculations.
2. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
3. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
4. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions for practical situations.
5. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY:

1. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
2. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or schedule form.
