What is a Virtual Infusion RN?

A Virtual Infusion RN is a Registered Nurse who provides remote support and care to patients receiving infusion therapies, such as IV medications, fluids, or blood products, typically in their homes or outpatient settings. This nurse uses telehealth technology to monitor patients, educate them about their treatments, and assist with any issues that may arise during the infusion process. Virtual Infusion RNs collaborate with other healthcare providers to ensure safe and effective care, even though they are not physically present with the patient. Their role is especially valuable for patients in rural or underserved areas who may have difficulty traveling to infusion centers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Virtual Infusion RN?

To thrive as a Virtual Infusion RN, you need a solid nursing foundation with IV therapy expertise, an active RN license, and experience in infusion care. Familiarity with telehealth platforms, electronic health records (EHRs), and remote patient monitoring tools is typically required. Strong communication, critical thinking, and the ability to build trust remotely are standout soft skills for this role. These capabilities ensure safe, effective infusion therapy and patient support in a virtual healthcare environment.

What are some common challenges Virtual Infusion RNs face when managing patient care remotely?

Virtual Infusion RNs often encounter challenges such as limited direct patient observation, which can make it harder to assess subtle reactions to infusions. Communication relies heavily on technology, so ensuring clear instructions and patient understanding is crucial. Additionally, troubleshooting technical issues or coordinating with local healthcare providers for hands-on support requires strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Building trusting relationships with patients remotely is also key to delivering safe, effective care.

Virtual Infusion Rns specialize in administering infusion therapies remotely, focusing on infusion procedures and patient monitoring. Telehealth Nurses provide broader remote nursing care, including assessments and health education. While both roles are remote and require RN licensure, Virtual Infusion Rns have specific infusion certifications and focus on infusion treatments, whereas Telehealth Nurses handle general patient care across various health issues.

At Vitaline, we don't just talk about culture, we live it. Join a rapidly growing, compliance focused IV therapy company that's empowering wellness and elevating lives, one patient at a time.
We are currently hiring a PRN IV Infusion Registered Nurse (RN) to serve patients throughout the Southern, IL/St. Louis, MO area. Candidates must reside within a 30 minute commute of either our Swansea, IL office or St. Louis, MO office. This is a mobile infusion RN role serving skilled nursing facilities and long-term care centers. This role is ideal for experienced, compassionate nurses seeking flexible PRN work who are confident in IV therapy, comfortable working independently, and enjoy patient interaction in a mobile setting.
Why You'll Love Working with Us:
  • Vehicle Stipend
  • PTO Plan
  • No nights, weekends, or holidays
  • Supportive, empowering culture rooted in growth and respect

About the Role:
As a mobile IV infusion RN, you'll travel to skilled nursing facilities and long-term care centers to administer IV hydration and medication therapy to geriatric patients, many of whom are "hard sticks." Our patients depend on you to be accurate, skilled, and compassionate.
This is an excellent opportunity for hospital nurses, emergency room (ER) nurses, IV specialists, and Registered Nurses with long-term care experience who are seeking a PRN role with increased autonomy, flexible weekday scheduling, and the ability to step away from traditional hospital environments while continuing to make a meaningful clinical impact.
Travel Expectations:
  • Submit a minimum of six available weekdays per month by the 20th of the prior month
  • Daily travel to skilled nursing facilities and nursing homes required
  • Comfortable driving up to 1.5 hours one way (home every night!)
  • Many facilities are closer, but flexibility is key

Responsibilities/Qualifications:
  • Active RN Multi-State/Compact License with the ability to practice in both Missouri and Illinois (Required).
  • Administer intravenous (IV) infusions and medications
  • Assess patients and monitor vital signs
  • Maintain detailed and accurate patient records
  • Communicate effectively with physicians and facility staff
  • Ensure the safety, comfort, and dignity of all patients
  • Work independently and as part of a collaborative care team
  • Minimum 2 years of IV therapy experience
  • Reliable transportation and smartphone

Vitaline is on a mission to revolutionize patient-centered care by merging science, technology, and human compassion. We celebrate diversity and believe every team member brings unique value to our mission.
If you are looking for flexible PRN work, weekday-only scheduling, and the opportunity to grow with a mission driven clinical team, we encourage you to apply today.
