Job description

Sunland is hiring for a Building Information Modeling (BIM) Manager at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). This position will start 11/16/2026. We are seeking a visionary BIM Manager specialized in aviation infrastructure to lead the overarching digital design, delivery, and lifecycle data strategy for our large-scale airport developments. Aviation project environments require managing complex, multi-billion-dollar portfolios containing active airfield runways, immense passenger terminal expansions, automated baggage handling systems, and highly sensitive landside security matrices. In this senior leadership role, you will define the enterprise-level BIM execution roadmap, align technology investments with corporate business goals, enforce data governance across multi-firm joint ventures, and spearhead the lifecycle data

handover strategy to transition the physical airport assets into an intelligent, operational digital twin.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Civil/Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or an aligned high-level digital technology degree.

• Minimum six (6) years of professional AEC experience, with at least 4 years explicitly leading large-scale aviation programs, multi-terminal airport developments, or complex transit

hubs.

• Deep platform knowledge across the Autodesk Suite (Revit, Navisworks, Civil 3D), combined with administrator-level command over Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC).

• Demonstrated history of architecting data schemas for asset handovers, incorporating asset data lifecycle frameworks, and successfully outputting large-scale COBie datasets.

• Must successfully clear a rigorous federal background screening process to secure full airport access badges (e.g., SIDA badge).

• Valid Driver License

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Governance

• Author, implement, and enforce the Airport Authority's Master BIM Standards, digital asset delivery specifications, and corporate BIM Execution Plans (BEP) for massive, multi-phased

programs.

• Serve as the primary digital technology conduit between airport executives, airline stakeholders, design consortia, general contractors, and federal regulatory bodies.

• Oversee the budget, system architecture, software licensing, and access controls for global-scale Common Data Environments (CDE) utilizing Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC).

• Establish strict quality metrics and automated model audit protocols for all third-party design and engineering firms to guarantee data compliance. Aviation System Integration & Advanced BIM Lifecycle

• Architect the technical data framework transforming design geometry into operational assets, linking deep Level of Development (LOD 500) parameters directly to Asset Management systems.

• Define, map, and enforce metadata schemas and COBie standards across thousands of aviation assets, seamlessly marrying indoor BIM layouts with broader Geographical Information Systems (GIS).

• Oversee the coordination and clearance paths of highly specialized multi-disciplinary systems, including Baggage Handling Systems (BHS), advanced security screen zones, and complex subterranean airside utilities.

• Champion the development of comprehensive 4D animations and 5D cost simulations to guarantee major infrastructure installations do not disrupt active flight lines or passenger flow.

Team Leadership & Mentorship

• Manage, mentor, and elevate a dedicated internal team of specialized Aviation BIM Coordinators, Modelers, and VDC data analysts.

• Guide software development and script creation (via Dynamo, Python, or Forge API) to automate heavy model validations and repetitive data scrubbing workflows.

• Design upskilling curricula and comprehensive training paths to ensure all field personnel and layout teams can fully exploit digital model parameters.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Virtual Design & Construction (VDC), Building Information Modeling Management, or business infrastructure administration.

• Advanced working knowledge of international standards, global framework methodologies, and open BIM practices (e.g., ISO 19650 series).

• Familiarity with spatial databases, automated data analytics tools (e.g., Power BI), or scripting environments to run cross-model analysis.

Our highly competitive salary/benefit package includes employer paid medical and dental insurance; 401(k) with a dollar for dollar match up to 4%; UNLIMITED paid leave and 70+ hours of paid holidays. If this sounds like what you are looking for come join our team!
