Title: Tutor Coordinator, Writing

POSITION SUMMARY
The Tutor Coordinator is responsible for providing academic support to students enrolled in a range of courses through traditional tutoring and structured weekly writing skills sessions. This role collaborates closely with faculty, part-time tutors, and the Learning Center Coordinator to assist students with writing assignments. Tutoring will be provided in both in-person and virtual formats, serving students across multiple campuses.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs job duties from the assigned campus or work location. Facilitates the development of academic writing for students seeking additional academic support outside of the classroom. Works in both one-on-one and small group settings on academic writing assignments. Collaborates with English faculty course leads to design weekly writing skills sessions that pair with upcoming assignments. Designs academic skills workshops, including time management and study skills, targeted for students enrolled in general education courses with multiple writing assignments.

Proactively contact students referred by faculty to schedule tutoring sessions. Assists the Learning Center Coordinator in designing training for part-time tutoring staff based on faculty needs, student feedback, and best practices for writing tutoring. Records tutoring visit data in a timely, accurate, and consistent manner. Promotes tutoring services by visiting classes, being embedded in course shells, or attending resource fairs. Maintains knowledge of course schedules for high-demand subjects. Coordinates Learning Center services in the Learning Center Coordinator's absence.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree or higher in a related subject area.

Must have subject matter expertise (shown by an A or B in the course subject and/or extensive experience) in English Composition courses.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous tutoring experience, particularly in a community college setting

Associate's degree or higher in English, Journalism, or Education

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Experience working with a variety of learning styles. Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with a wide range of faculty, staff, and student population. Proficient in virtual environments such as Zoom or Teams. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
