Job description

ICF is searching for a Health Communications Associate to support a portfolio of projects and strategic initiatives with a government client including communication science and program planning, product development, partner engagement, and dissemination strategy and implementation. This position will play a key role in developing and executing communications strategies that enhance awareness, engagement, and impact across a variety of federal programs.

The Health Communications Associate will work in a highly collaborative, fast-paced, and matrixed environment, partnering with technical experts, program managers, researchers, and government stakeholders to create clear, compelling, and audience-focused communications. The successful candidate will be adaptable, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities while delivering high-quality work under tight deadlines.

The ideal candidate brings experience supporting the full communications product lifecycle, from strategy and content development through review, publication, and dissemination, while ensuring quality, consistency, accessibility, and compliance with federal communications standards. They will possess exceptional writing and editing skills and the ability to translate complex technical, scientific, and programmatic information into messaging that resonates with diverse audiences.

Job Location

This position primarily supports remote operations in Atlanta, Georgia, with travel to the client office in Atlanta, GA based on client and contract activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project and Task Coordination: Support day-to-day coordination of communication projects, including maintaining work plans and timelines, tracking action items and deliverables, preparing meeting agendas and notes, coordinating team inputs, and supporting monthly and task-specific reporting.

  • Health Communication Content Development: Draft, edit, proofread, and coordinate development of audience-appropriate, plain-language health communication materials, including fact sheets, infographics, presentations, toolkits, educational resources, digital content, social media content, and other communication products.

  • Creative and Production Support: Assist with creative briefs, content inventories, production coordination, review cycles, and quality assurance for print, digital, graphic, audio, and video products. Coordinate feedback and revisions with writers, designers, subject matter experts, and other team members.

  • Training and Education Support: Assist with planning and delivering virtual and in-person trainings, including coordinating speakers and logistics, developing slides and handouts, managing invitations and participant communications, supporting training delivery, tracking attendance, and collecting and summarizing participant feedback.

  • Campaign Dissemination and Media Support: Assist with distribution planning, earned and paid media activities, campaign implementation, partner outreach, media tracking, and preparation of campaign reports. Support development and execution of communication activities across digital, social, print, radio, and other appropriate channels.

  • Web Content Support: As needed, assist with developing, reviewing, editing, and maintaining web content; tracking web requests; reviewing analytics; conducting content inventories and assessments; and supporting usability and accessibility improvements.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in health communications, strategic communications, marketing communications, or related disciplines.

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.

  • U.S. Citizenship required due to federal contract requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook) and collaboration platforms such as Teams or SharePoint.

  • Experience supporting federal government clients, particularly CDC.

  • Experience supporting nutrition, obesity prevention, and/or physical activity projects.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Self-driven and flexible, with the ability to independently manage tasks and handle multiple priorities.

  • Comfortable with graphics and formatting in Microsoft Suite.

  • Experience formatting in Confluence classic.

  • Knowledge of federal communications standards, Section 508 accessibility requirements, and plain language principles.

  • Comfortable facilitating online meetings with groups of at least 30 participants.

  • Familiarity with basic artificial intelligence, generative AI, data science, digital transformation, or emerging technology initiatives.

  • Familiarity with Mural design and facilitation.
