Title: Senior Data Scientist - Conversational AI / NLU
Location: Boston, MA (Hybrid 3 days a week)
Duration: 6 months (possibility of an extension)

We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist to lead the design and development of advanced conversational AI solutions in the banking domain. This is a hands-on execution role for a resource who can ramp up quickly, contribute immediately, and operate with minimal oversight within an established delivery model. The role will focus on Connect AI Agents working on Agentic Prompts, Build and Evaluate intent and slot tuning, and performance improvement.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support end-to-end delivery of Agentic conversational AI capabilities for IVR solutions built on Amazon Connect and Amazon Lex
  • Run and interpret experiments related to intent recognition, slot-filling performance, utterance handling, and overall conversational quality
  • Perform hands-on analysis of interaction data, model outputs, and test results to identify issues and improvement opportunities
  • Tune intent descriptions, training data, prompts, and related NLU assets to improve performance
  • Work closely with the onshore lead to refine slot-filling approach, conversation behavior, and delivery priorities
  • Contribute to evaluation and implementation of LLM- and GenAI-related capabilities for NLU and intent understanding
  • Prepare clear summaries of findings, recommendations, and performance results for leadership and project stakeholders
  • Help drive execution against delivery timelines by identifying risks, resolving issues, and maintaining strong analytical rigor

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, NLP, or a related field
  • 2+ years of building GenAI solutions
  • Strong hands-on experience with analytics, experimentation, model evaluation, and performance tuning
  • Experience working on conversational AI, NLU, chatbot, virtual assistant, or IVR use cases
  • Strong familiarity with Amazon Connect and Amazon Lex, or highly comparable experience with similar conversational AI platforms
  • Exposure to LLM, GenAI, or modern NLP techniques relevant to intent understanding and conversational AI
  • Ability to ramp up quickly and contribute immediate value in a delivery-oriented environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present work clearly to leadership and partner teams

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience tuning intent classification, slot-filling, fallback handling, or dialogue behavior in production environments
  • Strong Python and data analysis skills for experimentation, reporting, and model evaluation
  • Experience supporting prompt-based evaluation or LLM-assisted NLU workflows
  • Experience working in cross-functional delivery teams with onshore/offshore collaboration models
