Job description

JOB PURPOSE
As a member of Robins Kaplan's Talent team, the Attorney Recruiting Specialist collaborates closely with the Director of Administration and the Director of Talent to execute the firm's attorney recruiting initiatives including law school outreach, coordination of the summer associate program, and lateral associate hiring and onboarding. The Attorney Recruiting Specialist works closely with Hiring Partners, Practice Group Leaders, Office Managing Partners, and Directors of Administration to ensure the firm attracts, selects, and retains top legal talent.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Collaborate with the Director of Administration and Director of Talent to post summer associate and lateral associate job openings and manage candidates from the resume screening stage through the interview and offer process, ensuring a consistent and exceptional candidate experience.
  • Maintain viRecruit (applicant tracking system), including input and tracking all candidates.
  • Facilitate onboarding and integration for the summer associates, fall associates, and lateral attorney hires.
  • Participate in law school campus events to increase visibility at targeted law schools. Develop and foster key contacts with law schools, student organizations, and career services. Coordinate law student outreach initiatives, including attending and engaging with candidates at recruiting receptions, job fairs, local law school affinity and special interest organizations designed to enhance the firm's brand and reputation in the market.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Administration and Director of Talent to coordinate all aspects of the firm's summer associate program, including pre-arrival planning, travel and communications, program logistics, orientation, mentoring, educational programming, social and community service events, and other firm-sponsored activities. Participate in evaluating program outcomes and recommend enhancements to continuously improve the summer associate experience.
  • Maintain the summer associate work assignment tracking system and evaluation process.
  • Facilitate attorney exit interviews.
  • Manage search firm agreement tracking.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Administration to create and distribute the quarterly search firm newsletter.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Talent on summer associate program budget and overall attorney recruiting budget.
  • Represent the firm at recruiting committee meetings at Twin Cities Diversity in Practice and Minnesota Legal Career Professionals.
  • Maintain relationship with the National Association for Law Placement (NALP).
  • Oversee the completion of all lawyer personnel surveys (American Lawyer Mid-Level and Summer Associate Surveys, VAULT Associate Survey, NALP Associate Salary Survey) with supervision from the Director of Talent.
  • Process expense reimbursement requests for candidates and other department expenses.
  • Administer BarBri registration and payment, Bar Exam reimbursements, salary advances and relocation expenses for incoming associates, summer associates, and lateral attorney hires.
  • Partner with the business development team to engage firm alumni for various firm sponsored events, social gatherings, and CLE programs.
  • Participate in firmwide branding initiatives as needed to update recruiting and promotional materials, web site, social media presence.
  • Ensure compliance with the firm's hiring policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to special projects related to recruiting, talent development, or firmwide strategic priorities as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
  • Experience coordinating candidate interviews, recruiting events, and hiring processes while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Working knowledge of employment laws and recruiting best practices, including equal employment opportunity principles and candidate confidentiality.
  • Experience utilizing applicant tracking systems (ATS), HRIS platforms, Microsoft Office Suite, and virtual interviewing technologies.
  • Exceptional organizational, project management, written communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with attorneys, law schools, candidates, internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain strict confidentiality, and deliver exceptional client service with a high degree of professionalism and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Effective verbal communication and presentation skills, with the ability to facilitate meetings, deliver presentations, and represent the firm at recruiting events and professional functions.
  • Self-motivated and adaptable, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively while contributing to a high-performing team environment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Communications, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in attorney recruiting, legal talent acquisition, law school recruiting, or a related human resources function, preferably within a law firm or other professional services environment.
  • Demonstrated experience executing all phases of attorney recruiting, including law student recruiting, summer associate programs, and lateral attorney recruitment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION
Work is performed in a professional office environment and requires the following during the work day:
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time (working at a computer)
  • Ability to move/traverse about inside the office intermittently throughout the day (attend meetings, access file cabinets, obtain supplies from supply room, etc.)
  • Operate computer and other office equipment such as a copy machine, printer, telephone, etc.
  • Repetitive movement (i.e. heavy computer/keyboard use).
  • Individual will interact regularly with others verbally, in-person, and via written communication.
  • May require occasional light lifting (files, copy paper, etc.).

IN ADDITION TO THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OUTLINED ABOVE:
  • Must be willing to work occasional overtime, especially during peak recruitment season and the summer associate program.
  • Individual in this position will provide additional assistance and support as directed by his/her supervisor.

The hourly pay rate for this position is $35.90 - $46.15 per hour, depending on experience. This is a non-exempt position eligible for overtime. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job related factors permitted by law.
