Description
This position teaches applied music lessons, specifically orchestral strings, to students in RCBC's Music Department. The Applied Music: Strings courses (2 credits) consist of fourteen (14) one-hour weekly private lessons/ instruction to align with 4-year institution requirements. Lessons are offered in person on RCBC's Mount Laurel Campus at a time mutually agreed upon by the student and instructor. Students registered for applied lessons are also expected to attend all performance class recitals, perform in one of the scheduled recitals, and perform a final juried exam during finals week. This position may also teach ensembles. Based on prior experience, credentials, availability, and interest, the opportunity to teach other music courses is possible.
Adjunct faculty work under the direction of the Department Chair and administration of the Division of Humanities, Business, and Social Sciences to provide instruction, evaluate student performance, develop and manage syllabi and course materials, and comply with any Department, Division, or College requirements.
RCBC is seeking a dedicated and experienced Applied Strings (Violin, Viola, & Cello) Instructor to join our Music Department. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both classical and contemporary styles and a passion for teaching students of diverse backgrounds and skill levels.
Adjunct Faculty will be paid $450 per student.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide individual strings instruction to students.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that cater to the needs and goals of each student.
  • Prepare students for performances, recitals, and examinations.
  • Collaborate with other faculty members to enhance the music curriculum and participate in departmental activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Attend end of semester juries for students assigned to the instructor.
  • Stay current with developments in strings pedagogy and performance practices.

OVERALL PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY:
The primary and most important overall responsibility of all employees is to provide service in a pleasant, helpful, and effective manner to our students and other members of the College community.
Minimum Qualifications
Education Required: Master's degree in Music Performance, Jazz Studies, Contemporary Commercial music, Music Education, or a related field with applied study in string instruments.
Experience Required:
  • Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in violin, viola, cello or other strings instrument instruction.
  • Proficiency in both classical and contemporary styles.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Skills/Abilities /Knowledge /Other Requirements:
  • Experience teaching at the college level.
  • Active performance career and involvement in the music community.
  • Familiarity with music technology and online teaching platforms.

In order to enable Adjunct Faculty to be effective and to meet the requirements associated with relevant teaching conditions, RCBC has outlined 1) appropriate Technology Tools and, 2) a minimum level of proficiency with the Blackboard Ultra Learning Management System (LMS)
1) Technology Tools
Adjunct Faculty should have access to a computer less than 6 years old and equipped with a webcam and microphone, as well as reliable high-speed internet service.
2) Blackboard Ultra LMS
Adjunct Faculty are required to successfully complete a self-paced, online Blackboard Ultra LMS training with a verified level of proficiency
