Controller – Heavy Civil Construction

Location: Greater NYC Area (In-Person)

Compensation: $150,000 – $200,000 (Based on experience)

The Mission

Lead the financial integrity of a premier infrastructure leader. With over 25 years of success servicing major NYC agencies (DOT, DEP, DDC), our firm is seeking a strategic Controller to oversee our accounting engine. You will be responsible for ensuring GAAP compliance, driving the monthly close process, and providing the actionable financial insights that allow us to continue building the region's most critical infrastructure.

Key Impact Areas
  • Financial Stewardship: Own the integrity of financial statements. Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes to produce timely, accurate, and compiled financial reports.

  • Audit & Compliance Mastery: Co-lead internal and external audits, including financial, insurance, union, and agency audits. You will be the point person for implementing corrective actions that strengthen our financial standing.

  • Tax & Regulatory Oversight: Ensure the precision and punctuality of all tax filings, including IFTA, HUTA, sales tax, and quarterly payroll tax returns.

  • Strategic Growth: Beyond the ledger, you will identify cost-reduction strategies and implement process improvements to streamline workflows across the finance department.

  • Team Leadership: Supervise and develop the finance team, fostering an environment of professional growth, high productivity, and long-term retention.

  • Technical Integration: Leverage Vista Viewpoint to enhance reporting efficiency and data accuracy.

Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • Experience: 5–7 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership/supervisory role.

  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Vista Viewpoint software and the Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Compliance Knowledge: Deep understanding of GAAP, tax compliance (IFTA/HUTA/Payroll), and financial reporting standards.

  • Certification: CPA or advanced financial certification is highly preferred.

  • Soft Skills: Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal communication skills.
