Job description

Job Description

Job Title: Videography Team

Division: Communications
Department: Videography
Reports to: Videography Manager
Position Type: Unpaid Volunteer
Location: Remote with occasional in-person meetings (location-dependent), expected to be on-site during convention dates, including the day before and the day after for setup and teardown.

About Anthro SoCal

Anthro SoCal is a community-driven convention celebrating furry fandom through art, performance, gaming, and social connection. Our success depends on the dedication and enthusiasm of our volunteer team. Anthro SoCal was formally known as Another Furry Con in 2024-2025.

Position Overview

The Videography Team member is the visual storyteller of the convention, responsible for capturing the energy, artistry, and unforgettable moments of the event on film. In this staff-level role, you will move across the convention floor, panel rooms, and main stages to gather high-quality video footage that will be used for recap videos, promotional materials, and future marketing campaigns. If you have an eye for framing, a passion for capturing authentic community moments, and the stamina to stay moving throughout a dynamic event, this role puts you right in the center of the action.

Time Commitment
  • Year-round: None
  • As convention approaches: Attend online staff meetings and trainings when requested
  • Convention weekend: On-site presence is required with flexible hours
  • Pre and post-convention: On-site presence is required to assist with setup and teardown activities the day before and the day after the event
Key Responsibilities

Your shift will center around active floor shooting, asset management, and technical readiness:

  • Footage Capture: Scout and film a wide variety of convention elements, including high-energy crowd shots, detailed cosplay close-ups, dealer room bustle, panel highlights, and main stage events
  • Storytelling & Framing: Utilize professional framing, lighting awareness, and smooth camera movements to capture the vibrant, welcoming, and cinematic atmosphere of the convention
  • Equipment Management: Maintain, protect, and safely operate your camera rigs, lenses, stabilizers/gimbals, and audio recording gear in high-density, high-traffic convention environments
  • Media Management & Offloading: Organize, label, and securely offload captured video files to the department's storage servers at designated intervals throughout your shift
  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Coordinate briefly with Stage, Security, and Media teams on the floor to ensure you are filming from safe, authorized vantage points without disrupting the attendee experience
Qualifications

Required:

  • Punctuality & Reliability: Strict adherence to your scheduled shift times and shooting locations to ensure key programming and events are not missed
  • Technical Videography Knowledge: A solid understanding of manual camera settings (shutter speed, aperture, ISO, white balance, frame rates) and experience operating DSLR, mirrorless, or professional cinema cameras
  • Physical Stamina: The ability to stay on your feet, walk long distances, and carry camera equipment/backpacks for the duration of a multi-hour shift in a bustling environment
  • Problem-Solving: The ability to "think on your feet" and quickly adapt your camera settings or positioning to changing environments, such as moving from a low-light rave to a brightly lit lobby

Preferred:

  • Event or Cosplay Videography Experience: Prior experience filming conventions, music festivals, live performances, or dedicated cosplay music videos (CMVs)
  • Gear Ownership: Access to your own reliable mirrorless/DSLR camera body, low-light lenses, and stabilization gear (gimbal or monopod) suitable for event shooting
  • Fandom Culture Knowledge: A deep familiarity with convention culture, which helps you anticipate key moments, recognize popular characters/cosplays, and capture what fans love most
What We Offer

While this is an unpaid volunteer position, we provide:

  • Free convention membership and staff perks
  • Staff hospitality (meals/snacks during your shifts at-con)
  • Exclusive staff events and social opportunities
  • Recognition in convention materials
  • Experience in event management and team leadership
  • A supportive, creative community environment
  • References and recommendation letters upon request

Anthro SoCal is committed to creating an inclusive environment. We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds, experiences, and skill levels. All volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.
