JOB TITLE:
Video Editor
JOB PURPOSE:
The Video Editor is responsible for editing and producing high-quality video content for WyoWire and other Student Media broadcast and digital platforms. This position transforms raw footage into engaging multimedia stories, promotional content, and special projects while ensuring visual quality, technical accuracy, and timely completion of productions. The Video Editor collaborates with producers, reporters, videographers, and other Student Media staff to create compelling video content.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Edit video packages, news stories, feature stories, promotional videos, and special projects for WyoWire and other Student Media platforms.
  2. Assemble raw video footage into polished productions using professional editing software.
  3. Edit audio, adjust sound levels, and incorporate music, voiceovers, and sound effects when appropriate.
  4. Create graphics, lower-thirds, titles, captions, and visual effects to enhance video productions.
  5. Perform color correction and basic color grading to maintain consistent visual quality.
  6. Ensure all video content meets Student Media editorial, ethical, and production standards.
  7. Export and prepare videos for broadcast, livestreams, websites, social media, and digital distribution.
  8. Coordinate with producers, reporters, videographers, photographers, and social media staff to meet production deadlines.
  9. Assist with editing highlight reels, promotional materials, recruitment videos, and special event coverage.
  10. Maintain editing workstations and assist in troubleshooting basic post-production software and workflow issues.
  11. Train and mentor assistant video editors and other student staff in editing techniques and production workflows.
  12. Attend regular editorial and production meetings.
  13. Maintain regular office hours of not less than 8 hours per week between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Full-time student with a minimum 2.5 GPA.
  2. Previous experience in video production, broadcast journalism, filmmaking, multimedia storytelling, or related fields is preferred but not required.
  3. Experience with video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, or equivalent.
  4. Working knowledge of video formats, codecs, exporting, and digital delivery methods.
  5. Basic understanding of audio editing, color correction, graphics, and post-production workflows.
  6. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple editing projects and meet deadlines.
  7. Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced newsroom and production environment.
  8. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, polished, and engaging visual content.
  9. Willingness to learn new editing techniques, production technologies, and multimedia storytelling methods.
  10. Must be available to start work Aug. 24, 2025
  11. Must be available for publication deadlines on Sundays and Wednesday nights.
  12. Must be available Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for training.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Ability to shoot quality digital photographs in newspaper style
  2. Some prior supervisory experience
