The Associated Press seeks a multiplatformย videoย producer witha solidย track recordย of video storytelling toย produceย dailyย videoย in the U.S. East Coast afternoon and evening hours.ย This newsgathering position is based in Washington, D.C.ย Thisย specializedย roleย within the bureauย isย keyย toย our coverage ofย theย Whiteย House,ย Congressย and politics, delivering content tailored forย newsrooms andย digital platforms.ย In thisย role, you willย workย closelyย withย other staffers inย the bureauย andย coordinateย with the global video production teamย to deliver engaging journalism that serves our customers and helps grow AP's audience.ย This roleย isย crucial inย maintainingย AP's reputation and producingย premiumย videosย on some of our most important stories.ย This is a staff position covered by AP's agreement with the News Media Guild.ย 

What you will do:ย 

  • Edit breaking news video from live feeds, from journalists, from partner and user generated content, on deadline, with a focus on content related to U.S. government and politicsย 

  • Edit story elements quickly and creatively to produce strong visual narratives forย newsroomsย and digital audiencesย ย 

  • Produce video edits in a variety of stylesย includingย for customer use (Newsroom Ready),ย as well as forย online and social mediaย use, and for use on AP's digital propertiesย 

  • Record regular on-camera dispatches and voice-over for digital video treatmentsย to help explainย complexย political stories and giveย contextย 

  • Write relevant storylines andย shotlistsย with speed and accuracy.ย ย 

  • Mustย be able toย demonstrateย a track recordย andย ability toย source, verifyย and clearย userย generated contentย ย 

  • Exercise excellent news judgement when making editorial decisionsย 

We'relooking for someone who has:ย 

  • aย demonstrated understanding of Washington politics, strong news judgement and storytelling skills that appeal to digital audiencesย 

  • advanced-levelย professional competency in non-linear video editing, preferably with DaVinci Resolve, with a demonstrated ability to use visual effects and graphics to enhance storytelling, improve audience engagement and produce compelling, high-quality video contentย 

  • theย ability and willingness to work a schedule normally running from 1:00pm-9:00pm ET on weekdays, and the flexibility to work other hours, including nights and weekends, when news demands.ย 

  • experience creating content for digital audiences, andย a fluency in theย variety ofย audienceย consumption patterns onย different online platformsย 

  • a track recordย ofย identifyingย trendingย storiesย and producingย social videosย that people will want to share, like and talk aboutย 

  • Experience working with and coaching reporters to appear on camera for regular, engaging dispatches and debriefs on complex and trending storiesย ย 

  • a history of working under deadlinesย and whoย thrives in a breaking news environmentย ย 

  • strong writing skills in English and can write to picture clearly and succinctlyย 

  • strong communicationย skills and the ability to work collaboratively with the diverse team of journalists at the AP whoย operateย in all formats: text, photo, video, audio, digital/social, interactive and graphicsย 

  • a fluencyย inย pursuingย innovativeย productionย techniquesย while consistentlyย maintainingย AP's standards for integrity and objectivity.ย 

  • a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.ย ย 

  • at least three years of full-time experience at a daily newspaper,ย video newsroom, online or digital news outlet, or an AP bureau or regional desk.ย 

  • authorization to work in the United States.ย ย 

  • advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English.ย ย

This position is covered by The Associated Press' contract with the News Media Guild, whichย provides forย an annual salary for Class A staff of between $53,477 and $85,214 based on location and years of professional experience.ย Compensation isย contingentย on a job candidate's skills,ย qualificationsย and market location. Employees are eligible toย participate, according to the terms of the official plan documents, in a 401(k) plan and employer-sponsored health insuranceย plan, andย are eligible for paid time off and holidaysย in accordance withย AP policy.ย ย
