Job Title:  News Producer - KIRO TV Seattle

Position Overview

Cox Media Group (CMG) has an exciting opportunity for a News Producer who is creative, curious, and highly organized, and can build fast-paced, accurate, and memorable newscasts for broadcast, digital, and social platforms.

This role is ideal for a strong storyteller who thrives in a live newsroom, makes sound editorial decisions under pressure, and brings urgency, context, and clarity to every story. The News Producer will collaborate closely with anchors, reporters, meteorologists, editors, photographers, digital teams, and production staff to deliver compelling coverage that serves our viewers and upholds the highest standards of journalism.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Produces engaging, accurate, and well-paced newscasts that reflect strong news judgment and clear editorial priorities.
  • Writes compelling broadcast copy, including opens, teases, intros, tags, headlines, and transitions.
  • Leads live coverage with confidence, including breaking news, severe weather, developing stories, and special coverage.
  • Makes smart, timely rundown adjustments as stories change throughout the day.
  • Collaborates with anchors, reporters, meteorologists, photographers, editors, digital teams, and production teams to execute strong storytelling across platforms.
  • Uses video, graphics, live elements, social media, digital tools, and studio resources to strengthen story presentation.
  • Contributes story ideas, coverage plans, and creative approaches in editorial meetings.
  • Verifies information, upholds journalistic standards, and ensures accuracy, fairness, and clarity in all content.
  • Communicates clearly in the control room and remains calm, flexible, and solutions-focused during high-pressure coverage.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, Communications, Media, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Experience producing live newscasts and writing for broadcast, digital, and social platforms.
  • Strong news judgment and understanding of newscast structure, pacing, showcasing, and execution.
  • Ability to make fast, accurate editorial decisions during breaking news, severe weather, and other high-pressure coverage.
  • Strong writing, communication, organization, and control-room leadership skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask, and adapt quickly in a fast-paced newsroom
  • High professional standards, sound ethics, and a commitment to accuracy, fairness, and responsible journalism.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior medium- to large-market newsroom experience.
  • Demonstrated track record producing strong live, breaking news, or severe weather coverage.
  • At least 2 years of professional local television news experience.

The wage scale for this position is $33.56 per hour to $35.58 per hour.

  • Up to two (2) weeks of paid parental leave
