General Assignment Reporter โ€“ Scottsbluff, NE

Theย Scottsbluff Star-Heraldย is seeking a versatile and motivated journalist to join our newsroom as a general assignment reporter. This position offers the opportunity to cover a wide range of stories โ€” from breaking news and local government to education, community events and feature writing โ€” in a community that values strong local journalism.

This is true local reporting where your work makes a visible impact. Weโ€™re looking for someone who is curious, engaged and eager to tell the stories that matter to our readers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Reporting and writing news and feature stories for print and digital platforms
  • Covering meetings, events and breaking news
  • Shooting photos and video to accompany stories
  • Posting content online and on social media to grow audience engagement
  • Developing sources and generating story ideas

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be an enthusiastic, self-starting reporter with strong news judgment
  • Write clearly and accurately using AP style
  • Be comfortable with photography, videography and digital publishing tools
  • Engage with the community and build lasting relationships with sources
  • Be able to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
  • A degree in journalism or a related field is preferred, but internships and relevant experience will be considered. This position is open to early-career journalists and recent graduates looking to grow in a supportive newsroom environment
  • A valid driverโ€™s license and current vehicle insurance are required
