Job description

Technical Producer-VPC, Video Technology and Operations, USA TODAY CO.

The USA TODAY NETWORK is looking for a Technical Producer to power video production support for USA TODAY and newsrooms across the Network from our Video Production Center (VPC) in Atlanta, Ga. You’ll join the Visual & Technology team responsible for the workflows, tools, and standards that enable compelling video storytelling and social content at scale. From capturing high-quality footage to post-production and editing, this role helps Network properties—and USA TODAY—move faster, look better, and deliver more impactful video.

You’ll also help elevate the quality and consistency of live video—on our owned-and-operated players and across social platforms. As the VPC’s Technical Producer, you’ll help plan, coordinate, and run Network live streams from concept to execution, ensuring smooth operations and broadcast-ready results.

This role supports growth by expanding newsroom access to—and confidence with—cloud-based video production systems and asset management tools, helping teams collaborate, publish, and repurpose video more efficiently.

Equal parts technical operations and hands-on production, this role sits at the center of modern digital news video—where speed, reliability, and storytelling quality all matter.

We are a 24/7 news operation, and some events may fall outside normal working hours. This role is based in our Atlanta office.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide operational leadership for field productions, including developing and implementing best practices for shot creation, field workflows, and video transmission across Network properties.
  • Partner with team leads and multiple IT teams to integrate tools and systems, meeting fast-changing technical requirements and business needs.
  • Train and support video champions and teams across the USA TODAY NETWORK on technical operations, systems, and production software best practices.
  • Advise leaders across the USA TODAY NETWORK on video technical strategy and ecosystem decisions, making timely recommendations when pivots are needed.
  • Track emerging video technology trends and evaluate new tools that can improve quality, speed, and reliability for the business.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the production goals and strategy.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in journalism or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Expert knowledge of video production, transmission, hardware, and non-linear editing systems, with a focus on Adobe Creative Cloud applications and workflows.
  • In-depth knowledge of live streaming software and hardware, plus an understanding of requirements across major social destinations.
  • Experience with web-based video interview recording platforms.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills and an aptitude for solving problems.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of IP video technology.
  • Advanced knowledge of network infrastructure.
  • Advanced knowledge of system security.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Employment is contingent on passing a post-offer, pre-employment background check.
