What are Video Game Developers?

Video game developers are professionals who design, create, and program video games for computers, consoles, or mobile devices. They work as part of a team to develop the gameplay, graphics, user interface, and storylines that make up a video game. Developers can specialize in various areas such as game design, programming, art, animation, or sound. Their responsibilities often include coding, testing, debugging, and collaborating with other team members to ensure the game runs smoothly and meets creative vision. Video game developers may work for large studios or as independent creators.

What are some common challenges Video Game Developers face when working on large-scale projects?

Video Game Developers often encounter challenges such as coordinating with large, multidisciplinary teams, managing shifting project requirements, and adhering to tight deadlines. Communication and collaboration are essential, as developers must work closely with artists, designers, and quality assurance testers to ensure a cohesive final product. The Ideal Candidate:
A technically-minded event production leader with deep expertise in A/V systems, live event operations, and creative design. You are equally comfortable running a production room, briefing a client on facility capabilities, and building motion graphics for an upcoming event. You thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments and take pride in being the person others rely on when the lights go up and the puck drops. Your leadership ensures every event at Blackhawks Ice Center is executed flawlessly from the scoreboard to the sound system to the screen.

The Top Shelf:
The Manager, Scoreboard Operations will serve as the dedicated technical authority for all A/V, production, and creative needs at Blackhawks Ice Center. This is a newly created, critical role built to bring consistency, confidence, and excellence to every event in the building. With the recent expansion, BIC now features a center-hung videoboard and ribbon boards in USG Arena, LED lighting, a full audio mixing suite, broadcast junction boxes, 20+ Brightsign-powered televisions, and more. You will own all of it from staffing and executing production crews to meeting with clients and supporting Chicago Steel game days. Additionally, you will bring much-needed graphic design, video, and motion graphics capability to support BIC programming, arena marketing, and event promotion.

How You'll Contribute:

Technical Operations & A/V Management

  • Serve as the on-site technical authority for all A/V systems including the center-hung videoboard, ribbon boards, LED lighting, broadcast junction boxes, audio mixing, and Brightsign display players

  • Ensure reliable, consistent execution of all technical elements at every BIC event serving as the primary owner for the facility

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize all building technology; develop SOPs for equipment use and storage

  • Act as Technical Director for all Chicago Steel home games at BIC, aligned with how the role functions for Blackhawks productions

  • Support Blackhawks game day production needs as required

Production Room Leadership

  • Build out and manage a part-time/event-day production crew including: Replay Technician, PTZ Camera Operator, Tessera Expression Operator, Camera Operators, Audio Engineer, and additional support staff

  • Lead production room operations from pre-show setup through post-event wrap

  • Establish staffing schedules, workflows, and training programs for production crew members

Client Relations & Sales Support

  • Partner with the sales and events team to communicate BIC's full technical capabilities to clients, partners, and third parties

  • Participate in the planning and pre-event consultation process to ensure client vision is matched to production execution

  • Be a trusted, knowledgeable resource that gives clients and internal stakeholders confidence in BIC's capabilities

Creative Design & Content Production

  • Provide graphic design, motion graphics, and video production support for BIC programming, event marketing, and arena promotions

  • Build and load graphics packages for live events including Steel games, third-party events, and BIC internal programming

  • Support the BIC marketing team by alleviating design demand currently falling outside that team's primary scope

  • Collaborate with Steel and CBH design teams to maintain brand alignment across all BIC-related creative assets

Player Stats & Qualifications:

  • Five (5)+ years of experience in live event production, A/V operations, or broadcast sports venue experience strongly preferred

  • Demonstrated expertise with large-format scoreboard and videoboard systems (Daktronics, Nevco, or similar); Tessera/Expression experience a plus

  • Proficiency with audio mixing boards, digital audio systems, and live sound engineering

  • Experience staffing and leading production crews in a live event environment

  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop) for motion graphics and video production

  • Strong graphic design skills with experience producing arena or event-level creative assets

  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical clients and stakeholders

  • Self-starter comfortable owning projects end-to-end with minimal oversight

  • Willing and able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays consistent with event and game schedules

  • Passionate about working for a professional sports organization

  • Detail-oriented, solutions-driven, and calm under pressure
