Position Summary
Are you looking for real-world experience that will boost your resume in the fields of journalism, communication and public relations? Are you passionate about the exciting opportunities UNM has to offer? Do you enjoy writing, photography, and video? Consider applying to be part of The University of New Mexico Communication team!
In this position you will get experience writing press releases and feature stories, conducting interviews with faculty, staff and students, taking photographs, and possibly shooting video. You will work with communication representatives to produce news stories relevant to UNM for both print and electronic media and will have opportunities to network with local tv and print journalists. The position also requires administrative duties such as answering phones, logging news stories, inputting and managing the online UNM calendar and media monitoring.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of AP style, as well as the ability to edit for style and clarity in both print and electronic formats. A use of broadcast/video equipment is also desired, but not necessary.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud as well as working in an online environment.
  • Ability to work independently and on deadline are essential.
  • 20 hours/week, Monday thru Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. (schedule flexible dependent on class schedule).
