Job description

Senior Social Video Producer

As the state's largest local news organization, Hearst Connecticut Media Group is reaching audiences with ambitious, compelling journalism wherever they are through CT Insider's app and websites, in newsletters, on social media, through podcasts and in print.

We're looking for an innovative, collaborative Senior Social Video Producer who will be responsible for editing daily, quickturn social videos and larger enterprise projects.

They will work closely with the audience team, editors, reporters and photographers across the newsroom to create video content that will reach millions of viewers. This role represents our desire to innovate and continue to push the boundaries of traditional visual storytelling.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Edit, short and long-form social videos that engage readers and reflect the voice of Hearst Connecticut
  • Research, pitch and produce original videos that are both informative and entertaining
  • Optimize videos across platforms by demonstrating a strong understanding of audience metrics, engagement tactics and search engine optimization. This includes headlines, thumbnails, metadata and more. 
  • Communicate effectively and collaboratively across departments during breaking and planned news events 
  • Demonstrate a high comfort level with analyzing and interpreting metrics and using them to inform coverage decisions in real-time and long-term
  • Contribute to experiments using new technologies within our editorial guidelines
  • Help build and maintain a library of video assets
  • Ability to shoot high-quality and raw video, if necessary
  • Participate in news meetings to learn how stories take shape and better understand which audiences we're trying to reach

Qualifications: 

  • Strong editorial judgment with experience in a deadline-driven news environment 

  • Experience editing video, photos and audio in tools like Canva, Photoshop or Premiere, preferably in a newsroom environment
    Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills

  • Well-versed in quickturn social video editing for platforms like Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts. Know how to take various raw clips and make a truly fascinating video

  • Quick, organized, technical problem solver who is able to consistently meet deadlines

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in journalism, English, communications or related field preferred 

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule for breaking news and special content opportunities, including nights and weekends

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with a proven ability to effectively juggle multiple tasks
