Job description

We believe power is a promise - a shared commitment to be there for others when it matters most.

For more than 65 years, we've turned big ideas into solutions that help protect homes, strengthen businesses and build a more resilient, efficient, sustainable energy future.

Ready to Power a Smarter World with us?

The Social Media Content Designer will see social media as their canvas. This role will be responsible for translating complex ideas, business priorities and brand stories into static and motion content built specifically for the social ecosystem. The person in this role should be well-versed in what content social channel algorithms prioritize, as they'll be designing the assets that make Generac's social presence look and feel unmistakably ours.

This role needs to understand how people consume content on social platforms and how to create assets that earn attention, whether that's a static graphic, a short-form video or a motion piece built for a specific platform. These assets will keep our editorial planned up to two months in advance but will also help us pivot when a trend or message needs a quick turn.

This role is embedded in our social team, and we speak to both B2C and B2B audiences, and the content will reflect both. You'll own the creative direction alongside the social team's editorial direction, working in conjunction with the team and bringing suggestions/ideas when you spot a trend or format that we should adapt for our brand.

We're looking for:

  • A visual storyteller with a strong portfolio of social-first creative work

  • Deep understanding of social platforms, trends, algorithms and audience behavior, including a habit of spotting trends in your own feeds and knowing how to adapt them for a brand

  • Experience creating content specifically for channels like Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube Shorts or similar platforms

  • Strong design fundamentals with the ability to adapt creative for fast-moving digital environments

  • Experience with motion, video editing and dynamic content creation

  • Ability to simplify complex information into clear, memorable visual communication

  • Comfort taking detailed creative direction and iterating quickly based on specific feedback

  • Strong organizational skills and comfort managing multiple creative projects at once

  • A creative problem solver who can balance brand consistency with social relevance

Major Responsibilities

Editorial/Content Creation

  • Create and edit social media assets across formats including static graphics, motion, short-form video and other platform-native creative executions

  • Own creative direction for social media within our brand style, while mentoring other team members on great social design and editing

  • Transform complex topics, ideas and messages into simple, compelling visual "sound bites" that audiences can quickly understand and engage with

  • Develop creative concepts designed for social behavior, not adapted from traditional marketing materials

  • Own the social media visual tone and direction, evolved from our corporate brand, understanding that a strong social presence is built from a recognizable look and feel, not just strict templates

Operational Excellence

  • Partner closely with social, marketing and business teams to turn ideas into high-quality creative quickly

  • Build repeatable workflows that allow us to test, learn and create content efficiently

  • Organize and manage a high volume of creative projects while maintaining quality and consistency

AI + Creative Workflow

AI fluency is a critical part of this role. Our goal is to use AI to make creative workflows faster, smarter and more efficient and thoughtfully create content.

This role should be comfortable using AI-enabled tools and techniques to:

  • Speed up editing and production workflows

  • Prototype and explore creative concepts

  • Streamline repetitive design tasks

  • Improve efficiency while maintaining creative quality

  • Find new ways to help a small team create more impactful content

Minimum Job Requirements

Education

Bachelor's degree in graphic design or related field, or equivalent experience

Work Experience

4-6 years' experience designing content specifically for social media and a portfolio that highlights previous brand work.

Portfolio Ask

Examples may include:

  • Engagement growth

  • Reach or impressions

  • Testing insights

  • How creative decisions influenced results

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate both creative excellence and an understanding of how design drives performance. We may request a creative assignment from a brief during the interview process.

  • Advanced knowledge of social media platforms, audience behaviors, content formats and algorithm-driven best practices across Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube Shorts, Facebook and emerging channels.

  • Proficiency with social-first creative tools including Canva, CapCut, Instagram Edits and Adobe Creative Suite, with the ability to create content at the speed and style required by modern social platforms.

  • Strong visual storytelling skills with the ability to translate complex business topics, products and brand messages into simple, engaging and memorable content.

  • Experience creating platform-native static, motion and short-form video content designed specifically for social media consumption and engagement.

  • Ability to identify emerging trends, cultural moments and content formats and adapt them appropriately for brand use while maintaining brand consistency.

  • Knowledge of design principles including layout, typography, visual hierarchy, animation and motion design for digital environments.

  • Experience leveraging AI-enabled tools and workflows to accelerate content creation, concept development, editing and production while maintaining strong creative judgment and quality standards.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, competing priorities and tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
